The new movie is epic! I went to see it in 3D, and it was amazing! However, brush up on your Star Trek history before you go, because then it adds so much more to the movie! They make A LOT of references to the original movies, and it makes it fun to see them all.
I'd recommend starting with the original Star Trek movies that feature Captain Kirk, they were really good! Cheezy special effects sometimes, but the story and acting actually made up for it! It really captures your mind, and makes you feel like you're part of what's happening!

lol Well, if you loved the original Dr. Who, then you'd actually love the original Star Trek as well! I believe Netflix has the first few of the original movies, so you could always catch them there.
If nothing else, watch the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. That's what got me hooked on Star Trek for good. xD

I only have one issue with Star Trek, tbh: Idk which captain I like more: Captain James T. Kirk, or Captain Jean Luc Picard. XDD
They're the two captains from the different seasons, and it's almost impossible to pick between them. xD
