Sort of caste-based, except that some can hold multiple castes, and caste doesn't stop them from doing something so much as tell them what they are good at.

Legion do not age, do not require food (as long as they have plenty of light), do not reproduce (instead, they assimilate), are capable of resurrecting those who die, and share their thoughts with each other freely. This enables them to follow social patterns that are not always easy for humans to understand. They don't use money (unless they trade with non-Legion), they don't own land, and they don't engage in industrial manufacturing. The simplest way to describe their society is "eusocial," but this isn't very precise.

Legion generally see themselves as part of each other, and each other as part of themselves. This gives them a mentality that is sometimes described as a "hive mind." In other words, while each member of a hive has their own talents and duties, and some might be more valuable in certain situations, everyone is considered socially equal. The only exception is the queen of the hive, though she is seen as more of a motherly leader than as a ruler.

I love this. She reminds me of old Asian mythos, where dragons hold a place in nature. This is beautiful, more in the naturalistic aspect then the sexual aspect.
