Two mid-content wolfdogs from the sanctuary where I've been working on a documentary project. All animals that they have can not, for various reasons, be placed into homes and due to their partial domestic dog heritage are simply not equipped to ever survive on their own in the wild. True, they are beautiful and graceful creatures that you can't help but be in awe of... but at the same time it strikes a sadness in your heart to know what some of these poor creatures have endured, through no fault of their own.
Any time someone says, "Oh, I'm going to get one of those!" they never realize what a true dedication and, indeed, risk keeping a dog with wolf ancestry can be. Should it happen, the moment the animal escapes or, unthinkable, harms another animal or human... that's really it. Most places require near immediate euthanasia to the creature. So many of the animals at this savehaven were plucked directly out of harms way after finding themselves in exactly this situation. It's... heartbreaking. Truly, heartbreaking.
