I rarely get given free art though no one at meets I go to know I even draw which makes it nice, being tranparent, however
Lapres drew a nice sketch for me whilst I was just the downing cocktails, so I returned that favour for her work.
Id say about an 1hour 30min painting, never painted owls before so was pretty much started off with different head poses by blocking them in with a base tone, in this case a desaturated blue but once I found what I like I blocked in the rest and add more tones and lighting...

There not much detail there, most of it is just strokes being overlapped quickly ;) 30mins to paint the form, the hour to paint the rest, final touches can take time but there is a point of knowing when to stop, I always keep a stopwatch on my smartphone to tell me when to stop
Though I didnt include the blocking stage which is just massive brush strokes of getting the form the way I want, I made about 3-7 poses of the head though, Id say sketching the initial heads out can take less than 15mins as the objective is to make the shape of the overall form ;) the time really begins when you start to render the form
Its a case of focusing on what needs to be done, making guess judgements lead to time being used up, though overtime I kinda have a set number of objectives to fulfil
1. Block in form
2. Ensure form looks well when flipped
3. Add shapes inside form + flip to ensure they look right
4. Add flat tones to the planes, plan out my light/shadows
5. Apply more tones/colour
6. Apply final bits and bobs in areas of interest
7. Stop here or continue
Pretty much a cycle I use but I tend to repeat certain processes if something isnt right, generally 1-3 are the most important if that is screwed up then the rest just makes the errors a lot more worse
