Was a story I started in 2007...which I never completed.

Who knows if I'll expand this, ever again.

"I would never give up my land. Not when there's so much at stake."
"Mother damn you!" he snarled, slamming a mailed fist onto the table, sending splinters flying everywhere.
He was angry, yes. But he was also afraid. I could sense it.
"They will never make it through the Grove", I replied, looking him in the eye, "You know that to be true."
Yeiv lowered his gaze, speaking quickly now to the splintered table, "We can't risk it, they are great in number and will willingly throw their lives away for her. We have to leave. The children," his eyes flicked back up to meet mine, "The children can't fight. Think about them."
He turned to go, his fist clenched, "I... cannot bear to see more of our children die in the fires of war."
I felt a stab of pain in my chest as a tide of memories washed over me.
"Think about it," Yeiv whispered, a clawed hand on the door, "For the sake of your brother."
With that, he swept out of the room, his cape swishing as he closed the door behind him.
Silence blanketed the room, save for the dying hiss of my table lamp.
I attended to the battle plans, intent on forgetting.
And then the tears came.
Who knows if I'll expand this, ever again.
