Ayu went up to her room and began to get to work not long after she and her mother got back home. Ayu worked up in her room on the Shinki throughout the day, stopping if she needed to use the bathroom, to have lunch, dinner, and take a bath later in the night.
It was now just past 10pm as Ayu picked at the Skinki's shoulder with a pair of small tools. Looking up at her computer, Ayu watched the faceless image of the Shinki on her screen as the point she was working on blinked from red and the turned to green. She then proceeded to use another small tool to pick inside the Shinki's chest. Ignoring the tiny sparks from the tool, Ayu checks her computer screen again. The image of the Shinki on screen's chest stopped blinking red and turned to green before the image of the Shinki on screen turned to a bright green color. Ayu let out a sigh of relief and smiled.

Gently picking up the white Shinki, Ayu set her down in the seatlike cradle plugged into her computer. By now, the Shinki's armor had been removed, revealing her to have a completely white colored body, save for her head, face, neck, and shoulders, and long blonde colored hair. Her chest plate was gone, revealing a small panel in her chest with three small colored spheres in a circular formation. After placing a new breast panel over the Shinki's chest, Ayu smiled at her.
“Okay. You're all good to go. Here we go” Ayu said, looking at the Shinki before pushing a key on her keyboard. After a beep sound from her computer, the white Shinki slowly began to open her eyes. Standing up, she looked up at Ayu.
“Frontline unit. Angel-type MK. 2. Operational” she said.
“Hello. It's really nice to meet you” Ayu said, smiling at her.
“Hello. It's nice to meet you master. Master, please give me a name” the Shinki said politely.
Ayu crossed her arms and took a moment to think. After almost a full minute, she snapped her figures.
“Got it. How does Arnval sound?” She said.
“Arnval. Name recognized and recorded. As your partner, I pledge to fulfill a Shinki's duties. I look forward to our cooperation” Arnval said, bowing.
“Likewise” Ayu said, bowing back.

After a moment, Ayu looked back up.
“Arnval? Could I ask you to do something for me?” Ayu asked.
“Of course master. What is it you'd like me to do?” Arnval asked.
“If it isn't a problem, could you please not call me master?” Ayu asked.
“But if not master, what should I call you?” Arnval asked, tilting her head.
“My name is Ayu. If it's okay with you, I'd really like it if you just called me that” Ayu said, smiling.
Arnval smiled and nodded back.
“Okay Ayu” she said cheerfully.

Looking around the desk, Arnval took notes of the tools, parts, and paints at various points of the desk.
“What are these things on the desk here for?” she asked, picking up one of the tools and examining it curiously.
“They're Shinki repairs tools. I used these to get you all fixed up. And I used these special paints to refinish your coat since so much of it was damaged” Ayu answered, holding up one of the small bottles of paint for Arnval to see.
“I was damaged? What happened to me?” Arnval asked.
“That's right. You don't remember anymore. Yeah, you were pretty badly damaged. I found you on my window sill this morning. I can't tell you how you got there or exactly how you were damaged because I really don't know. Based on the extent of the damage, I think it's possible you were attacked” Ayu said.
“I see... so there's really no way to know how I was hurt?” Arnval asked.
Ayu sighed.
“I'm sorry Arnval. Whatever it was that happened to you did irreparable damage to your CSC. The only way you could be repaired was if your broken CSC was replaced with a new one” she said.
“Oh... perhaps it's better that way then” Arnval said, spotting the wrecked CSC that had once been inside her among a small pile of broken parts.

Ayu watched sadly as Arnval held her old CSC and studied it. After a minute, she set it back down. That's when she saw the damaged breast panel.
“Was this a damaged piece of me too?” she asked.
Ayu nodded.
“Yes. All of those pieces are ones that had to be replaced because of how much damaged they took” she said.
Arnval was about to respond when her eyes suddenly widened and she dropped the damaged breast panel. She then fell to her knees and covered her ears with her hands. Seeing this, Ayu immediately became concerned.
“Arnval? Are you okay? What's wrong” Ayu asked, worry clear in her voice.
Arnval gave no response whatsoever. She remained in place with a terrified look on her face as she trembled and closed her eyes tightly. Images of streetlights and houses flying by her began flashing in her head. Followed by a brief image of a large black shadow in front of her. She was afraid. The image of the shadow quickly became smaller before a blue light shot at her. That's when Ayu touched Arnval's shoulder to try and see what was happened. That's when Arnval panicked.
“Please no!!” she almost screamed, throwing her arm out and hitting Ayu's hand. It was then that she realized that she was back in Ayu's room.
“Arnval... what's gotten into you?” Ayu asked, pulling her hand away.
Hearing this, Arnval looked up at Ayu and realized when she had done, making her eye's widen.
“Oh, Ma- Ayu! I-I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to! Please don't be angry at me. I-I...” Arnval began before she felt herself being picked up by Ayu's hand.
Ayu held Arnval close to her and shushed her.
“Shhh, It's okay Arnval. It's okay” Ayu said softly.
Still feeling scared from a moment ago, Arnval tightly clenched Ayu's shirt and rested her head against Ayu's chest.

“Arnval. What just happened just now?” Ayu asked.
“I-I don't know. I just started seeing things in my head and I suddenly felt so scared. Like a memory, or nightmare... but my CSC was replaced, so it's impossible for me to have any scary memories after only just being awakened... right?” Arnval said, looking up at Ayu.
Ayu ran her finger through Arnval's hair to comfort her.
“I've never heard of it happening before, but maybe touching that part somehow trigger a memory from your previous CSC. Again though, I've never heard of that happening before” Ayu said.
“Does this mean I'm defective?” Arnval asked.
Ayu shook her head.
“I don't think so. If my guess is correct, then it's very unique” she said.
“Are you going to get rid of me?” Arnval asked.
Again, Ayu shook her head.
“No, or course not Arnval. I'd never do that. I swear” Ayu said.
“Really? You promise?” Arnval asked.
Ayu smiled and nodded.
“You bet. You're my Shinki now. It's my responsibility to take care of you and keep you safe, and I don't plan to neglect that responsibility. More than that though, you're my friend too. So there's no way I'm ever going to abandon you. I promise” she said.
Arnval smiled and nodded before nuzzling her head against Ayu's chest.
“Okay. Thank you Ayu” she said.

“You're going to make a good mom Ayu, you know that?” Hope said from the doorway.
Arnval and Ayu both looked to hope.
“Mom, how long have you been there?” Ayu asked, looking down when she felt Arnval climb up her shirt and hide herself in between Ayu's breasts, causing Ayu to blush .
“I came up to see if you were doing okay, and when I entered the room, you and Arnval were talking about her having a flash memory and about you promising never to abandon her” Hope said, giggling a bit at the display of shyness from Arnval.
“It's okay for you to come out Arnval. This is my mom” Ayu said, looking down at her chest where Arnval had hidden herself.
“Hi there. It's very nice to meet you” Hope said, coming over to Ayu and looking down at her chest.
“Arnval? Could you please come out of there? This is kind of uncomfortable for me...” Ayu said.
After looking up at Hope for another moment, Arnval climbed out of hiding and climbed her way back down the front of Ayu's shirt before jumping up onto the desk.
“I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable Ayu” Arnval said, bowing apologetically.
“It's okay Arnval. You don't need to be scared of my mom. Don't worry” Ayu said, giving Arnval an assuring smile.
Smiling back and nodding, Arnval turned to Hope and bowed.
“Hello. It's very nice to meet you. My name is Arnval” she said politely.
“It's very nice to meet you too. My name is Hope Kisari, and I'm Ayu's mother” Hope said, smiling and bowing back.
“Um... Ayu requested that I call her her name rather than master. Does that mean you'd like me to call you by your name as well?” Arnval asked shyly.
“You can if you'd like. Hope or mom. Either is fine by me. Is there a name you'd like me to call you by?” Hope asked, smiling.
Arnval shook her head.
“That's okay Hope. I like the name Ayu gave me” Arnval said, smiling.
“Okay, Arnval it is then” Hope said, smiling.

Letting out a yawn, Ayu looked at the clock on her computer.
Seeing the time, Arnval looked to Ayu.
“It's gotten so late. You should get some rest soon Ayu” Arnval said.
Hope nodded.
“She's right. You've been working almost non-stop up for hours, and you need to get some sleep” Hope said, looking at Ayu.
“Yeah... Sleep definitely sounds great right about now” Ayu said, letting out a yawn again.

“Ayu? What have you been working on almost non-stop today?” Arnval asked.
“Hm? Oh. I guess I forgot to completely fill you in on that. After I found you this morning, I went to the local Shinki shop with mom to pick up some things I needed to repair you. Not counting lunch, dinner, my bath, and any bathroom breaks I needed, I've pretty much been up here working on fixing you up all day” Ayu answered, yawning.
“Oh! I'm so sorry Ayu! It's my fault you're so sleepy...” Arnval said, bowing repeatedly.
Ayu shook her head.
“There's nothing you need to apologize for Arnval. Really, I'm just glad that you're okay. I really was worried when I found you the way I did” Ayu said.
Arnval smiled and bowed again.
“Thank you again so much for fixing me” she said.
“You're welcome. I really was happy to” Ayu said, smiling back at her.

“Okay girls. Arnval is right. You should go ahead and get ready for bed” Hope said.
“Yes mom” Ayu said, heading over to her dresser and fetching a pair of pink pajamas.
“And Shinkis need time to sleep and charge themselves too, so you should get ready for bed too” Hope said, looking down to Arnval.
“Okay Hope” Arnval replied, smiling up at Hope and nodding.
“Would you do me a favor and keep Arnval company while I go change real quick?” Ayu asked, looking over to hope.
Hope nodded.
“Sure” she said, smiling.
Ayu nodded and looked to Arnval.
“I'll be right back, okay Arnval?” she said.
“Okay” Arnval said, nodding.
After giving Arnval a friendly smile, Ayu headed out of the room, down the hall, and to bathroom, closing the door behind her.

Chapter 3 of my story, Rise of an Angel:). Those of you who are familiar with Busou Shinki may have already guessed, but the Shinki Ayu found is the Angel-type Shinki Arnval:). Now, her behavior may seem a bit strange, but it's not terribly uncommon actually. When Shinkis are first activated, they're very much like newborns. Everything is new to them. Given, Shinkis are able to speak right off the bat, and they do have basic knowledge of things, but there are a lot of things they don't know about or understand when they first awaken. To some extent, the Arnval unit that Ayu found is a bit different from most others, but you'll all find out more about that later, as well as why Ayu is so passionate toward Shinkis. More story development to come in chapter 4.
