First pair of ballpoint portraits commissioned by
anbessa These two were pretty interesting and unique to draw; unusual characters are always a welcome thing, especially Alix there at the top. I think I went a little overboard on him I liked drawing him so much, heh.
I'm currently still full up on these and other commissions, but stay tuned for future journals: I intend to do more of these when I'm freed up again because they are damn fun.
Done with black ballpoint, a Pilot pen and some marker accents. Characters belong to
anbessa and the rights to the art is jointly owned by myself and the commissioner.

I can tell how you went overboard... have to love this "Oh, you really think so..?" expression. :)
DAT SNARL
the other portrait is wonderful, too, great grin and full of character. :)
I have dappled in ball point, too, in the past, and am amazed how fine your shading is. :)

Yeah I saw him and I immediately thought: "That face is just begging for something fierce..." I had a lot of fun drawing Anku too though, especially his fur. The scan doesn't show it, but there's a lot more subtle textures and shading there that's more visible in the real thing.
It's funny, off and on I've done things with ballpoint, but it wasn't till last year that I really started getting serious with them. I have so much fun with this medium now it's almost criminal.

it's interesting. I tend to let my characters look happy, content, and peaceful, and am always pleasantly surprised when other artists sense the serious side behind them. :) fierce sounds good, since Alix is a warrior and wizard.
those raúna people are a colourful lot, and some are really fuzzy. :)
some years ago I had to lay low at the hospital for a couple weeks, and had a sketchpad and a ball pen with me, so when reading or laying around became boring, I doodled along. they often became refined drawings, too... ball pen is actually a lot of fun, especially since it works like pencil, but without the option of erasing; which feels freeing indeed. why bother with a mistake. you can't do anything about it anyway.
except maybe make it look like it was supposed to be like it. :)
