René and Nicole found the ski instructor Nikki (Blackclaw) set them up with, her personal trainer in fact. A tall, handsome abomasnow named Corbin in his early twenties. He was thick-shouldered, muscular and a winning grin that could melt the very snow. René didn’t like him one little bit.
“Have you both got your equipment?” He asked as they strapped themselves into their skis and grabbed their poles. “Good. Now the first thing we do is get on the ski-lift. This can be a bit tricky so keep your knees bent and time yourselves.”
René grumbled under his breath as Corbin nodded approvingly as Nicole got into the proper position. Who was he? Big, strong, handsome muscular mon telling him and Nicole what to do as if he were “—Ulp!” René yelped as the lift seat smacked him on the bottom. He fell backwards onto the seat, next to Nicole.
“Nice mount!” Corbin called, with no trace of sarcasm in his voice as he got on the seat behind them. “Now when we get to the top of the bunny slope, dismount just the way I showed you!”
René gulped as he watched the grown below him drop away. Nicole elbowed him in the side. “Come on, I bet you’ll like it when you get to the top!”
“Provided we GET to the top.” He winced. Nicole looked down and saw the top of the hill approaching.
“This is our stop.” She nudged him. “You ready?”
“Of course not!”
“Oh. Fair enough.” Nicole shrugged as she oh-so-gently shoved him off.
René didn’t even have time to yell before he landed face first in the snow. “Ah fink ah swallahed ah glasheer.” He mumbled into the snow. Nicole snorted.
Corbin landed a moment later. “Up on your feet.” He admonished René.
“I’m up.” René sighed as he struggled to his feet.
“Good.” Corbin nodded. “Now you’re just going to go down this slope. It’s a small, gradual slope so there’s little chance of any real danger or injuries. Keep your knees bent and your head forward. René you go first.”
The vulpix gulped. “Me?” He looked down the hill which suddenly looked much steeper and taller than it had a moment ago. René felt his vision telescope in and out. “I don’t know—” Corbin rolled his eyes.
“One in every group.” He groaned as he placed his booted foot on the fox’s backside and pushed. René warbled, flailed and soon found himself barreling down the slope...unfortunately without his ski poles. Nicole soon followed him.
His heart rate rising…and his lunch in danger of doing the same…René let out an anguished wail as he roared down hill, flailing his arms. “I’m gonna diiiiiiiieeeeeeee!!!!”
“How do you stop!?!” Nicole wondered as she went downhill about half a minute after him…backwards, also without her poles.
Unsurprisingly René plowed into the thankfully powdery white snow at the bottom first. He went in head first and was buried so deeply that only his tails and skis were visible. “I…hate…snow.” He mumbled, barely audible under the snow. He yelped as Nicole plowed into the snow next to him.
She sat up in the snow. “Let’s go again! Let’s go again!” She grinned in enthusiasm.
“…You’re killing me.” René groaned. Nicole shrugged and patted the snow covering René’s rear.
“Come on…get out of there before you get frost-buns.” She grinned. “A few more runs and then we’ll go in and get some hot chocolate. Deal?”
“…Deal.”
