Interesting... I never thought of using them together. You've inspired me to try that sometime now... <3 hehe. This piece is so amazingly detailed, and the way you direct the eye by sharpening and blurring certain aspects is executed really well. Did you use a ref for the pants, or did you just shade them intuitively?
I had to watch a lot of pants references to see how the fabric hugs the foot and how to show this more natural. But I did not use a specific reference while working on the painting, so it was done intuitively. Because it's very difficult finding a suitable reference, where the light falls just as conceived in the painting.
Huh, so you did a fabric study...awesome! :) That's a good way to learn the "feel of different fabrics. I'll have to do that some time because I'm never sure where to place the highlights and shadows on textures other than fur/flat. Thanks for the reply! The pants in this painting turned out fantastically! So realistic, I love it. ^^
