I had a character that was an experiment once. A story I wrote with twins, but there were two versions. Each version the other twin died, so either the boy or girl went through after waking up. So each version of the story unfolded the same, yet differently. :P

Well when I did it I just let it flow as I went and rewrote it for the other gender depending on what one I was in the mood to write with. The problem with going like that is the moment you get stuck it can take up to months to get yourself out of it.
So just take your time, there's no need to worry about rushing it.
