Nicole woke up when the helicopter landed with a faint ‘Thump!’ She looked around and saw René dozing in his seat. She was still clutching his tails in her hands. With an amused smile, Nicole gently shook them. With a twitch and a yawn, René stirred.
“Hmm. Wha—?” He yawned, scratching a bit.
“We’ve stopped.” Nicole murmured as she unfastened her seat belt. René did the same. They picked up their bags and stepped out of the helicopter, nodding their thanks to the pilot. The leapt down into banks of solid snow.
René looked around. “Wow.” He breathed, his breathe turning into a foggy bank as it left his lips. Mount Coronet dominated the skyline as a white blanket of snow stretched out as far as the eye could see. Just before them was a decent sized resort cottage, homey looking and comfortable on the outside.
“Last one there is a rotten exeggcute!” Nicole whooped as she started running.
“Hey! Wait for me!” René urged as he belatedly started running. The two of them dashed for the resort with Nicole easily outstripping René. As they came close to the front door René tripped and went sliding on his stomach, moving quickly on the icy-snow. “Look out!” He shouted as he bowled into the back of Nicole’s legs. She tumbled backwards onto the fox as they both went skidding into the front steps in a heap.
“Made it.” René groaned as Nicole lay atop him.
“Thanks. Nice catch eagle-eye.” She groaned as she picked herself up. “Let’s go check in.” The two young mon walked inside, gently shaking the snow from themselves as they went to the front desk.
A bored looking glalie sat at the reception desk. She looked down at the two of them with something close to disdain. “Can I help you?” She asked in tones clearly indicating that she didn’t think she could. Or would.
“Um, yes we have a reservation.” René coughed. “It’s under the name ‘Vulpes.’” The glalie looked it up on a computer…then froze when she saw who had made the reservation for him.
“I’m…I’m sorry sir.” She stammered. “Here’s your key,” she babbled as she frantically shoved a room key into his hand. “If you need anything you can just ask for me! My name is Lyn. Your room is 107 and your appointment with ski instructor Corbin is at 3. Please enjoy your stay!”
Nodding uncomfortably, René backed away. “Let’s go put our stuff in our room.” He said to Nicole, who merely nodded.
“It’s about 2 now.” She noted. “Want to change into our snow gear and leave our stuff in our room?”
“Sure.” He nodded. The two of them walked down the hallway, René fingering the keys and Nicole paying more attention to the rooms they past along the way. Gym. Pool. Lounge. Cafeteria.
René put the key into the door and started jiggling it, trying to get it to open as Nicole went further down the hall. “Hey mister?” He looked down and saw a young starli boy, no more than seven years old, tugging on his leg. “You a fire-type right?”
“That’s right.” René confirmed in confusion.
“Can you heat up my pop tart?” He asked, holding up the pastry. Smiling wryly, René nodded. He held it up to his face and gently started breathing fire. Suddenly Nicole called from a few doors down.
“Hey, did you know they have a co-ed spa here?” She asked. René’s felt his eyes widen as he choked at the thought, accidentally flambéing the poor boy’s snack.
“Er, sorry.” The vulpix said sheepishly as the boy looked up with big, trembling eyes. René dug into his wallet. “Here’s five dollars, go get yourself another pop tart.”
The boy grinned and darted off. “What was that?” Nicole asked as she came back.
“Nothing.” The fox said quickly. “Um, shall we go inside and take our clothes off? I MEAN GET CHANGED INTO OUR SNOWGEAR!!” He shouted out a hasty correction.
“I got it, thanks.” Nicole rolled her eyes as she opened the door. “I’ll change out here and you in the bathroom?”
René nodded. “Deal.” He grabbed his bag and fairly fled into the bathroom. Closing the door behind him and sighing, René starting to change into his snow gear: Thick snow pants, a multi-layered jacket, snow boots, and a hat and gloves…which he couldn’t find. He rolled his eyes. “Typical.” Muttering, he opened the door…only to find himself staring at Nicole’s backside as she struggled into a pair of long-johns. “Urk!” He gulped.
Nicole turned around and flushed. “René!” She exclaimed. Both of them blushing furiously, René tried to head back into the bathroom only to trip and fall on his backside. “Sorry!” He shouted, red-faced.
Struggling and swearing under her breath, Nicole finally managed to pull up her long-johns. “René your timing stinks.” She flushed embarrassed as hell that René saw her rear. Especially the spots dotting her backside that she really wished were gone.
“I get that a lot.” He mumbled. “Sorry.”
“Let’s just head outside.” Nicole flushed as she pulled on her outer clothes. René shame-faced fell into step behind her. She didn’t say a word or even toss a look back at him as they walked out of the resort and into the snow. He sighed, thinking that she was furious with him. That he’d spoiled everything. René hung his head, staring at the snow as his boots crunched over it. That was probably why he failed to notice the snowball until it smacked him in the face.
“—Ooomph!” René whuffed as he fell on his tails.
He shook the snow from his head as Nicole broke into peals of laughter. “Come on!” She laughed. “Don’t tell me that all it takes to knock you down is a single snowball, foxy.” She grinned as she picked up and started rolling another one in her hands. “Better get in the game!”
René scrambled to his feet, only narrowly ducking another frozen projectile. He dove behind a snow bank. “You’re gonna get it!” He swore as he hurled a snowball at the nidoran. Nicole ducked as she hurled her missile at René.
The fox grinned and let out a blast of flame that melted the snowball a good foot from his face.
“Hey no fair!” Nicole protested right before a snowball smacked into her face.
“Tough!” René giggled as he threw another one, that missed by a wide margin. Nicole grinned evilly.
“All right, you asked for it!” She laughed as she charged at him, tackling him to the snow. They started rolled in the snow together, first Nicole was on top, then René, and then Nicole again.
“Quit it!” René couldn’t help laughing. “I’m getting snow in my pants here!”
“Is that so?” Nicole gleamed as she scooped up a handful of snow in her hand and jammed it down the back of René’s pants.
The fox’s eyes bulged. “Akk! Cold! VERY COLD!” He shivered as snow sprinkled across his backside. Nicole grinned.
“NOW we’re even.” She grinned as she mussed his hair. “Now get the frost off your buns and follow me.” René shuddered and grabbed the back of his pant legs, trying to shake out the snow from the inside of his undies.
René followed her up the slope.
