A small weevil wandered into my kitchen. Not good with these, so don't know Genus or species.

These guys are called "kärsäkäs" in Finland. It roughly translates into "the snouted one". Now I know why. He looks like he has a huge nose of sorts.

Another English common name for them is "Snout Beetles", so that seems quite appropriate. :D

Their nose is definitely their most distinguishing feature.

Sweet shot.

I find it interesting that the antenna come out of the end of the snout rather than the top of the head like most insects.

I'm curious, what lens did you use for this?

Nice. I was looking over the canon macro lenses recently. Can't decide which one to get when I'm ready though. Right now I got a sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG Macro lense.

I need a 300mm lens, but that lens for birds and the like.

That sigma unfortunately isn't a true macro so you would be well served to get a good macro lens for this type of stuff.

The Canon 100mm macro provides amazing performance for the price. I highly recommend it.

For sure. The Sigma is a zoom lens. But it does do decently on the macro stuff. Still, your right. I definitely need to get a true macro lens.

awr <3 I've always been fond of the weevils. I've actually got this gorgeous lime green one in my collection. Much to small to look like anything special to the naked eye, but under a microscope it's about the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen =D
