Exactly! This is a Happy/Positive/Good Smile which is actually reflected in his eyes. =^^=
A lot of people can smile, but most of the time it's that Smug/Negative Smile of control, and the eyes always remain cold.
I spend a lot of time looking at the eyes of pieces people commission and draw, because the eyes always tell a story all their own about how the character is feeling. I'd say that Smile of Kharma's is more the type where he's admitting that Theran is a goof, but he wouldn't have anyone else by his side to help him.

As he noticed, the mana was flowing around him, not through him ;) The gems only trigger when he's channeling an excess of 1,000 miules of mana through his own body. With the energy that was drained from him and then subsequently drained back out of the rack, he was able to keep it "airborne" and still make use of it - although the gloves prevented him adding any more to it, hence why it ran out quite quickly.
