'Roach' is just his nickname; His actual name is Michael. I forget the surname I gave him. I'll probably give him a different one, even if I remember later. The previous one just didn't stick. His nickname is a pot reference; He's a pot smoker. I don't remember why I decided he should be called Roach, but I can't call him anything else, now. It's so firmly entrenched in my head that I forget that it's a reference to his pot habit. Roach is just who he is. I called him Roach before I named him Michael!

Roach is from the same universe as Darlene, but not the same story. I have three different stories set in what I call the 'Dragon-verse' (there are no actual dragons). Roach's story is the earliest of them, being more-or-less the present, immediately post-WW3 (it's not an apocalypse story. At least, not in the countries the stories are set in. There are a few places that are radioactive wastelands, though).

Roach's story starts with him needing to rent a room in his house to help make payments on it. An AU version of myself moves in, and from there on it's mostly wacky roommate antics.
