The crack of dawn broke out through the town. A lone cockerel could be heard in the distance announcing to everyone that the sun was about to rise. The sun rose slowly, as though it too was not interested in waking up that morning. It slowly rose into the sky burning through the clouds with ease and making its appearance known to the world. The morning air was also crisp and a tad fresh from the cold night from before. The sun would do every attempt to try and warm the day up for everybody as it lazily crept upward into the cloudy sky.
The sun's rays pounded at Viratan's window as though it wanted to break in, it wanted to enter the window and rob his room of all the darkness it contained. Viratan yawned as he stirred in his sleep, it could have been a reason from the cockerel or it could have been apprehension of waking up before his alarm.
Vira reached his arms into the air and attempted to suck in all the air in his room as he performed a mighty yawn. As he expelled, he threw his arms forward while also performing a morning stretch. He then opened his curtains that were beside his bed and yanked them open with a firm tug.
The suns rays seemed to blind him momentarily as he startled backwards a jar as the light tore into the remaining darkness. Vira slid out of bed and walked over to his cupboard. He opened it up and pulled out some attire that he was going to wear for the day. He had no plans going out so he pulled out clothing that was comfortable to wear within the house.
After selecting his clothes he walked over to the bed and started to put it all on.
As he was getting changed he began to wonder what the day had in store for him, he was unsure how it would go but he was not looking forward to it either. He never did enjoy these days.
Vira got up off the bed when he finished getting changed and walked out of his room. He steadily walked over the landing and approached the stairs. He held hold of the banister as he walked down them as casually as he always did.
He passed by the front door of his house and saw that he had a quite a bit of mail.
He walked over and picked up all the mail and walked into the living room too look through it all. He picked them up one by one. He had three birthday cards and an invitation. He opened up his cards and received birthday cards from Jack, Aku and Phenic. He smiled at each one as he read through them. The thought of receiving cards from his friends always warmed his heart and he placed them down gently over by the coffee table near the fireplace. As he sat back down again he checked over the invitation. It was not a party invitation or anything out of the unusual it was a simple message that Aku had asked if Viratan was free that day as Aku wanted to pop up with a gift. Vira's eyes lit up slightly as he saw that Aku had a gift for him.
He knew that Aku would turn up regardless if he accepted or not but at least Aku had warned him that he was going to stop by. As today was Viratans birthday he knew he was going to take the day easy. He was very interested in seeing his friends pop up for a bit so he generally was in a good mood.
Viratan got up and slowly walked over into his kitchen and put the kettle on. Vira knew that there was nothing better than a nice cup of tea in the morning. He prepared the mug while the kettle boiled and just as he finished preparing the mug the kettle had bleeped to inform him it was boiled. Vira poured the water in and allowed it to stew for a moment.
Vira could not believe he was twenty three today. Where had the years gone, how could they have all swept by so quickly and without his knowledge. It did not matter to him as he had no regrets as his friends would always make him see the pluses of life and everything that he held dear. Vira finally got a teaspoon and began dipping his tea back and finally disposed of it once it had served its purpose. Vira picked up his hot mug of tea and walked back into his living room. He placed his mug down gently on the coffee table as he kicked his paws up on the arm rest of his sofa as he wriggled into it gently as he begun to get himself comfortable. Then as he lay there nice and snug he began to wonder what was in store for him on his birthday and who would pop over and share his birthday with him.

The purring of a hyena was a relaxing sound first thing in the morning. Aku was fast asleep dreaming about being chased by multiple serpents which seemed to have a passion for eating him on a regular basis. Aku tossed around in his sleep like a fish being pulled out of its habitat and placed on solid ground. Eventually Aku tossed about that much he bashed his head into the wall. Aku grunted and rubbed his head with his paw and cursed under his breath when he realised that he was now awake from that lovely dream he had just had. He wanted to go back there but just before he started to drift off once again he suddenly remembered. It was Viratan's birthday and Aku knew that he had something ordered for Viratan's birthday at Jacks gift shack.
Aku and Jack went way back, they used to have multiple adventures where both of them always seemed to get into trouble and always managed to somehow come out on the other end despite how bad the situations got.
Aku rolled over onto his back while wagging his tail with happiness as he begun reciting the events of the past that he had with Jack and chuckled a few times.
Aku finally got up and begun prancing around in circles where he was highly excited. He could not wait to get to the gift shack where he prayed Jack had got the gift prepared for him.
Finally the excitement got the better of Aku and he got up and ran out of the room. Most people were unaware of the Hyenas superior speed but he made little work as he charged down the stairs and into the living area. He looked around for something, not even Aku knew what he was looking for. From an onlookers point of view they would have thought the Hyena was insane, perhaps he was insane.
Finally Aku gave up on what he was looking for and charged into the front door to his house and flopped in a heap outside. He let out a glorious loud laugh and started charging towards Jacks gift shack.
Aku was glad that the shop was not to far away let alone the fact that Viratan did not live to far away either. He wanted to reach the shop and see if it was delivered and then finally see if Jack could deliver it for him. Jack was a nice person he thought so he knew that he might be lucky this day.
Aku continued his sprint and weaved between pedestrians all the way to his destination and was relieved to see that the shop was open. He nuzzled the door as he did not want to break through it as Jack could not keep affording all the new doors that Aku had broken into. Jack heard the knocks and approached the door and opened it for Aku who was more than happy to plod in like he owned the place.
"Morning Aku, what can I do for you today my dear boy?" Jack said happily.
Aku walked in and collapsed onto the floor, rolling over on his back placing all four paws directly into the air.
"Silly Jack, you should know why I am here."
"Oh yes, the gift you asked me to order in for you."
Aku rolled over and got on all fours and pounced on top of Jack while at the same time pinning him to the floor.
"Bingo! Now where is it?"
Aku kindly rolled off of Jack and began walking over to Jack's desk while leaving him splayed on the floor.
"God damn you Aku. Are you always this excited in the mornings?"
"Do not tell me you forgot it's Viratan's birthday today?"
"Nope, if you remember I was the one that reminded you silly."
"Well just show me the gift so I can make my way to Viratan's with it. He loves surprises."
"Ok follow me, this way."
Jack got up slowly and brushed off his trousers in an attempt to remove both the fur of Aku and some dried dirt that Aku must have rolled around in on a previous day.
Finally Jack marched on and past Aku to the back room. Aku pranced around nervously but also excitedly. He was very interested to make sure the package was secure and safe. Nothing could go wrong with the plan he thought. He had everything in store for Viratan and he knew he would love every minute of it.
Jack opened the double doors which lead into the back room and he held them open for Aku to follow. As they entered the room it was full of all sorts of merchandise. It was practically cluttered and also a mess but it was defiantly amazing to see what Jack had in stock.
"Your package is right over here Aku."
Jack began walking to the opposite side of the room with Aku closely in tow.
Aku was simply amazed by all the merchandise. There were Egyptian artefacts which intrigued him the most along with a lot of movie memorabilia and even live creatures. Aku gasped as he knew from the look of all this merchandise that his gift for Viratan was going to be perfect.
"Over here Aku, here it is."
Jack approached a huge box. It was a wooden box with some holes all around it. Jack was not sure what was contained inside but all he knew was something was alive in there and it was heavy. Jack also went on the idea of he would never open someone's package, but he was always interested in what everything contained. He was deeply interested to see what was inside this case as he could hear noises and tried to look through the small holes to what it could be but always came out empty handed.
Aku approached the box and peered through the holes. Aku's sight was much sharper and he could tell the contents of the box. He was happy to see the creature was alive and well and also appeared to be very hungry.
"Would you like me to open the box to see if everything is in order Aku?" I asked politely.
"Nope everything is in order but I was wandering if I could ask you a huge favour?"
"Of course Aku. What's the problem?"
"Could you wrap it up in birthday wrapping paper and do the necessary writings and stuff? And then could you pretty please deliver it for me when you are done?"
"I am not sure Aku, I am a very busy man and I am unsure I can spare the time."
Aku suddenly changed his posture and made his face look really cute. He fluttered his eyes at mine in a way of looking hurt or upset but at the same time having the friendly sense of begging at me.
"Oh, alright. Stop giving me those sad little hyena eyes. Il do it, just give me an hour or so."
Aku was so excited that he jumped around and begun running around in circles happily once again. After burning a lot of energy running around Aku charged at Jack again, who could not believe he did not see it coming as Aku pounced Jack and pinned him to the floor and began tongue bathing Jacks face as a huge thank you for doing the favour for him. Jack groaned and attempted to wriggle his head all over to prevent Aku from getting solid licks on his face. Finally after multiple assaults Aku finished his attack and rolled over to the side and allowed Jack to get up and clean himself. Aku on the other hand continued to jump around and prance around happily.
Jack got up into a sat position and reached down for the bottom of his shirt and began wiping his face frantically to get all the slobber off of his face. After a moment of constant scrubbing Jack got up slowly and shook his head from side to side as though he was trying to shake something out that was stuck in his head.
"Don't mention it Aku. Leave it with me and I will deliver it very shortly. But I suggest you get to Viratan's house to make sure he is in and so someone can actually be inside when I deliver the package."
"Yup, don't worry Jack; I will make sure someone is in. Just make sure you deliver it on time." with a heartedly laugh.
"Don't worry; i will have it delivered in enough time. I will get the front door for you."
Aku and Jack made there way through the back room once more and made there way into the shop where a couple more customers were waiting for Jack's attention. Jack walked over to the door and pulled it open so Aku could easily slip outside.
"Don't worry Aku; it will be delivered within the hour."
"Cheers Jack I owe you my friend."
And with that the door to the shop was closed behind Aku and he made his way for Viratan's house which thankfully was just down the road. Aku was over the moon that the plan was set and waiting. All he had to do was get to the house and make sure Viratan was there and that he remained there until Jack delivered the package.
Aku pranced happily all the way down the path with a huge, happy spring in his step. The sun at this point was higher in the sky while blaring into the town soaking its bright rays swallowing up all the darkness it touched. The warmth of the rays were a bliss to Aku's fur which seemed to make him happier as the wind in turn blew blissfully though his fur making the sun rays not so irritating.
Aku reached Viratan's house and rapped his paw on the door and waited patiently at the door step while he wagged his tail frantically.
Multiple moments passed and sweat began appearing on his brow as he started to believe that Viratan was out but thankfully after a few more seconds the door opened inwards and Viratan appeared.
"Aku it is so nice to see you. Please come in, come in."
"Happy birthday, Vira!" Aku said smiling from ear to ear.
Aku entered the house with that same spring in his step that he had when he was walking down the street.
Viratan closed the door behind Aku and they both walked in silence to the living room where Viratan climbed up onto his couch and Aku jumped up on the couch next to Viratan and laid next to him propping his head on Viratan's lap.
Viratan was a wolf that enjoyed a lot of cuddles. He was a very affectionate wolf and had no problems in showing it. The black wolf had some interesting looking tattoos on certain areas of his body which were blue with a red trim running around it and they would glow and fade when Viratan was about to use one of his powers.
These tattoos phased in and out as he reached over and pet Aku's head. He started to rustle his fingers through Aku's fur, enjoying the feeling rustling through his fingers.
Aku purred comfortably although he just wanted the gift to turn up before Viratan would leave his house.
Suddenly the phone rang and Viratan got up and walked into the hallway. Aku got up off the couch and followed him closely, he did not want to break line of sight of Viratan. He needed to make sure he was here to receive the gift and also open it up for the big surprise that was contained within. Viratan reached the phone on the table and picked up the receiver.
"Hello?" Viratan answered.
Aku sat there looking over at his paw as though he was looking at an imaginary watch. He could not help it but he had no idea what was holding Jack up. He needed him to fulfil his promise and deliver the package as soon as possible, although he did remember that the shop reception was busy when he left. Aku knew he had to keep Viratan occupied but he struggled on thinking of how to do it.
While Viratan was on the phone Aku retreated back into the living room to look around briefly while keeping Viratan within line of sight. He could not see much except the television, couch and a few books on the shelves.
Aku was more interested in the surprise and began drooling at the thought of it as he tried to picture it within his head.
Finally Viratan finished on the phone and walked over to where Aku was.
"Everything ok Aku?"
"Yeah I am all good, let's put the TV on for a bit."
"Sure Aku, no problem. I hope more people turn up today, I need to go out in a little while."
Aku showed a little concern from Viratan's last message as he knew Jack had to get his ass into gear.
Aku jumped up on the couch once again as Viratan picked up the remote and walked over while sitting down when he got there.
Viratan sad down next to Aku and wrapped his left arm around Aku's waist as he turned the TV on with the remote and began flipping through channels.
Viratan finally stopped on a channel that was showing a cartoon called Zoids. Viratan always enjoyed watching Zoids and although Aku never watched television, let alone could not stand it, he watched it with Viratan just to keep him occupied.

An hour or so passed and Viratan was still hooked on his Zoids cartoon when finally the door bell rung. Aku had passed out asleep on Viratan's lap when suddenly he jumped up and hurried to the front door way before Viratan took any notice. Aku looked through the window at the top of the door and could make out Jacks spiky fringe, but only just.
"Vira? You have someone at the door for you."
Viratan got up reluctantly and walked over to the door.
"Damn it Aku. You are interrupting my Zoids."
Viratan opened the door to reveal a huge crate that was placed on his doorstep. He could see a familiar head sticking over the top of the crate. The birthday gift was huge too look at and it took Viratan by surprise when all he could see in his doorway was a huge wrapped gift.
"Happy Birthday, Vira!" Jack and Aku said together.
"Oh my god, thanks guys."
Finally Viratan happily started yanking on the wrapping paper and began tearing it off. It did not take him long to remove the front part of the wrapping paper which was surrounding the side of the gift nearest to the door.
Viratan looked at the crate with wonder as he looked around for a way to pry it open.
"There should be a hook on your end Viratan. Unlatch it and pull your side down." Jack commanded.
Viratan briefly looked around the crate and finally found the latch.
"Ok I found it."
Viratan unhinged the front of the crate and reached for the top and pulled down the front of the crate. Viratan had no chance to react as a fifty foot python lunged for Viratan and latched its maw onto Viratan's shoulder and pinning him to the floor under its coils.
The blood python then effortlessly began coiling Viratan up quickly and effectively and put a gentle squeeze into his prey. Aku started prancing around the room in circles, over the moon that the surprise was not spoilt and worked perfectly. The reaction of Viratan's face was a picture that Aku would never forget. Viratan's eyes widened with fear as he was ambushed but had no chance to even try and fight back. Aku lay down next to Viratan and watched as the blood python continued to squeeze its prey as it readied itself to swallow Viratan whole.
"How do you like your surprise?"
"You bought me a blood python to eat me?"
"Yes, but this is not ordinary bloody python. Bloody pythons only grow to a maximum of six to eight feet. This one is fifty feet as its parents were a blood and reticulated python."
"And that makes it better to me how?"
"Well so he can swallow you whole of course. I hope you enjoy your gift Vira? I will enjoy watching and so will Jack."
The python moved its head to Viratan's vulnerable foot paws and opened wide and took them inside his mouth and massaged them gently. The python continued to slowly swallow up Viratan's feet up to his legs and coat them nicely is a slimy drool which would help to swallow him down easier. Aku continued to watch in amazement but mainly concentrated on Viratan's facial expressions.
Viratan was practically swallowed all the way up to his neck when Aku patted Vira on the head and gave him a light muzzle as he saw the blood python's hungry maw continue its swallowing assault.
"Aku, please stop this." Viratan pleaded.
"I can't Viratan. This is your gift from Jack and I. This took a lot for us to organise and we cannot go away empty handed. Just sit back and relax. Make that lay there and relax." as Aku started laughing uncontrollably while rolling around on the floor.
Viratan tried to respond but the blood python closed his jaws around Viratan's head, effectively sealing him inside.
The blood python coiled up slightly as it continued to swallow Viratan down into his stomach. Viratan started to squirm inside the snake's body and Aku did not want him to wriggle too much that it would force the snake to regurgitate him.
Aku pounced on the blood pythons back as well as Viratan's back which in turn stopped the wriggling and squirming.
Jack stared in amazement as he could see the bulge of Viratan perfectly with Aku hugging the bulge to prevent the movement. Jack could also see that the python had now looked over at Aku and stared at him intently.
Jack began to wonder if the snake was going to swallow Aku down next and Jack prayed that would be the case as he would get the chance to see two swallows in one sitting.
Viratan continued to lay in the snakes belly wondering if he would ever get out of this mess. One thing was for certain, he had a huge surprise on his birthday.
