I think its a matter of perception.
With a b/w picture (be it grey or blue) you concentrate on the lighting and make up whatever colours you like in your mind.
With a coloured picture however, you drop your imagination and scrutinize the colours that are there,
which makes a white wolf with brown fur tinge a bit odd to me :)
