No, the original Birdo was a crossdresser.

This is also not something anyone doesn't know. You're surprising about as many people as you would by saying Vader is Luke's father.

Sorry, but I'm just really tired of people doing that. It's like, yeah, we all know there's some big controversy over her gender even though Nintendo has made a pretty clear series of retcons, you don't get points for bringing it up.

This was a comment from 2013 that I forgot I ever made. That being said, yeah, the Japanese version said her name's Catherine and she wants to be called Cassie because it's cuter, but I was more talking on an "as far as the localization is concerned" note.
