I took this on my drive through monument valley, famous for these buttes, or as I like to call them "vertical mountains". I was out there last week visiting friends and family. I truly believe that Monument Valley is one of the most beautiful places on earth. No photo does it justice, you really have to come here to see for yourself.

I love it in this valley. I could sit here for hours. There are people that actually live in this valley still in the traditional dwellings (the Hogans), but idk if I could be that hardcore, I like having a fan running thank you very much heh. The rest of the people live in the next town over (which is Kayenta).
The Black Hills area is another place I'd like to see someday, but I don't know anyone out there so I'd be going sort of as a tourist.

I'm always impressed by those who hold to older ways like that. I know I couldn't do it either even if there are times I savor getting away from the internet and online connections.
I think you would enjoy the Black Hills. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been; it's been almost 20 years now since I was last there and I miss it. And there's nothing wrong with seeing a place as a tourist; most places we see in life will be that way if we ever travel.

Oh there is definitely nothing wrong with being a tourist. Just, when you know people somewhere, or have lived there yourself you can sometimes see aspects of that area that you might not otherwise see as a regular tourist unless you REALLY do your investigation. Still, that would not stop me from going to see the Black Hills sometime.
