Poor Artemis... It's amazing that such a gift can be such a curse in the hands of the wrong people, and the wrong people always seem to get their hands on it.

And sometimes the "wrong" people are simply well-intentioned and otherwise good people that think of the positives towards the many before the negatives to the few.

Not even that much of an overtone of thoughtlessness.... Silver has no idea of the curse, he just sees what he thinks is a natural immunity and as such sometimes, with just a sample of that blood, you can give a simulation of that immunity to many others through several possible vectors without hurting the originator at all.... he simply has no idea of the hurt/trauma that would cause Artemis or that it cannot be passed on.

One he knows the true nature (if he ever does) I suspect he will understand her reaction.... but at the same time I reckon the knowledge of a source of almost universal saving will play on his mind.... the compassion for both the suffering patient and the trauma the cure/curse would cause Artemis would be a near torture for him as well.... a truly compassionate and driven medical carer would be torn badly by this choice.

And Hector realizes just how kindred a spirit she is.


Want to hug her and tell her it'll be okay, but now is definitely not the time.

The look of grudging resignation and sadness that Artemis gives as she departs is so telling... what to many shorter lived people should be a statement of defiance to the world that has hurt her so often has become a tragic irony.... an irony that Hector can relate to, the indestructibility and longevity of one who no longer wishes for it but at the same time is too caring and committed to those around them to take a coward's option, fully knowing the pain that that would cause to others.....

I need to read the story behind that name. It's got my interest now.

I've thought a little bit about what I would be if I was a minion, a few comics back I think I decided it would be a gate/border guard that patrolled the entrance area so people stop getting in so easy.
