El Reno Tornado

This is a shot of the El Reno tornado from May 31st 2013. as it made its hard turn to the left. Ultimately taking several chasers lives. Sorry for it being out of focus I was chasing solo and turn pointed and let auto focus do its thing. This is close to the time it made history and grew to 2.6 miles wide. It was an EF5 with winds of at least 295 MPH.

I fully agree. Tim Samaras and his crew was some of my favorite storm chasers because they were passionate and had a direct understanding on their mission. Tim's work will always be remembered and how he and his team have helped pioneer better warnings and also with data gathering techniques that were state of the art.

the biggest suprise for me was that it was them getting caught, tim worked very cautious and careful.

i was glad that my family got out of that storm, and tornado, and went somewhere safe from it. My old hometown of El Reno, Oklahoma will be rebuilt from this, and also, do you have any video of this by any chance, Nikita?

I do have video but its the last on my list of way behind data to get edited and uploaded. Im just now working on May 20th.

i watched this thing form on one of the streams on TVNWeather (BMFCT) this thing blew up to an absolute monster quick. I'm still in disbelief we lost one of the best and most cautious chase teams out there to this thing, I never would have expected TWISTEX to be caught up in it. Just an example of how unpredictable a tornado can be and even the best can get caught off guard. RIP Tim, Paul and Carl

Tim and paul samaras, along with carl young will be missed badly.
i was shocked to hear them being dead.

I have yet to chase the first storm, and i dont know when / how.

there was a great many chasers suprised by it going left.
in all honest, im glad that there arent more dead persons.

however tim, paul anc carl died what they loved doing, and they saved many lives by the work they did.
they will not be forgotten
