sabredragon commissioned two color pics from me at FC 2013, and this is the first of the two. It depicts his character, Sabre, moving a boulder away from his cave, showing off his back muscles in the process. My husband calls this pic 'Don't worry, Jesus, I'll save you!" lol!!
Thank you, SabreDragon, for your patience!

Thank you so much for this beautiful work of art from FC2013 Sandy! You always make Sabre look far too beautiful with your Prismacolor pencils and shading techniques! Each traditional piece that you do is always bursting with color! I love it!
At the time of commissioning, I'd noticed how I had quite a lack of back shots of Sabre, mostly because it was harder to think of ideas in which he was not looking at the viewer and focused on something else. Depicting him moving the huge boulder that blocks the mouth of his cave sounded like a great idea! It was a great way to show off Sabre's back muscles, as well as to emphasize how much effort is required of him just to get into and out of his home! It must feel like a full day’s workout to do so each time, even for a dragon!
It was a really clever idea of yours to have his left wing’s edge cutting into the page at the viewer so that the angle and perspective does not block much of the rest of his body. I like how you did his wings here, showing the long “fingers” of his batlike wings, and the way the membrane folds and ripples between each. His golden wings stand out so much from the picture, despite the sandy-coloured background. They are very majestic-looking!
I’ve always loved the way you draw Sabre’s soft, bumpy, golden secondary scales! The way they are shaped and spaced apart gives them a sense of texture and firmness somehow. I was going for the “underbelly of a snake” look with these, and you represent this amazingly well! Sabre's backside also hasn't been seen very often, and I think you did an amazing job on his rippled rump! XD
I really like how you did his legs and feet. His flexed left foot and crouching stance looks really awesome! It's also really cool how you did his tail, with the way it curves and sweeps off to the left, with his large blue tailspade at the end. Seeing how all the dragon's back muscles pop out as they are activated in his efforts to move the massive rock looks really awesome!
Sabre's strained face and intense glare as he looks back is very intimidating! It's as if he's saying "would you quit staring and give me a paw with this!?"
