This kind of mageworking only becomes visible to your naked eye the moment before it explodes in your face.

Still, there are a few pretty effects. Here's Chyrie demonstrating the Thaumic Charge Field Test, a rough-and-ready measure of how much free magical energy is sloshing around your current location. A sudden peak in the charge can indicate a dangerous thaumic vortex around you, while a sudden drop in the charge can indicate uptake by a dangerous thaumic vortex beside you. The abundance of branches on the fiery "tree" indicates the charge strength. The branch count here is pretty average for the time and dimension, so probably there's nothing nasty about to happen. Probably.
