NOTE: Random foxcat thing is random. Any similarities to one of the myriad number of furry hybrids is strictly by accident cut me a break geez. >:\
Should I start labeling these beside with numbers? Might help to find specific ones...
Anyway, I wish I could say this was a rare event but its really not for me. Most everyone new I meet nowadays and talk to for any length of time with seems to have a response similar to this. I've been asked for my cell number by people I've known for about a week, been asked to be people's boyfriends more times than I care to admit, and I always feel bad telling them no to a lot of other things I don't even want to admit being asked, lol.
I suppose you could say a lot of it is my fault. "You're too friendly with people! Don't listen to their problems so much. Don't try to help them, they get too attached to you!"
...Yeeeeeaaaah, that's not who I am though. It goes against everything I am to see someone with a problem/need, and not doing what I can to help out. If I actually can't do anything, that's different, but I want to try at least. Is general kindness so rare nowadays that simply giving someone a shoulder to lean on when they need it means "Oh hey, they must be attracted to me they're being so nice! :D"? Yeah, I dunno.
Anyway, I can just see people being offended by this in some way, but its not meant to be at all. I just find it ridiculous how this seems to happen with a regular consistency, lol.

I say, let them be offended if they so choose to be. They're pushing personal boundaries with you by asking you all the insane, crazy, forever-alone-guy questions that they do. I, for one, really like that song even though it's kind of ridiculous to begin with, and this comic makes it even more so.
A little more on topic, I think kindness has become super rare these days. There's a commercial that I've heard on the radio once or twice about how people are shocked when they get treated with respect and like their time is important when going into a store. I think it's this same thing all across the board. Friends could give half a care about how other friends are feeling, and thusly, never speak to them unless it's convenient. So when nice guys like you come along, people eat it up because they're not used to it.

Yeah... I'm not insulted. I could VERY easily be that sort of person if it wasn't for the fact I recognize that that sort of behavior is frowned upon.
Of course, all the effort to NOT be this type of person results in me... what would be the best way to put it... "Associate Zoning" people who another person would obviously recognize as being in the "Friend Zone"? I guess that would put me at the opposite extreme as this.

Oh god yes
People are so surprised when someone's nice to them that they take it as a sign of deep affection and such, when really I'm nice to everyone and get a kick out of making people happy.
Naturally the above statement doesn't apply when in-character on account of Scree being a dick.

I guess I'm fortunate--no one has responded to me this way, and I too don't like to see someone having a problem and not doing anything if there is something I can do.
I don't know how much anyone knows it, but at the present time I'm not boyfriend material--I don't even think I'm being called to marriage, but even if I am, I'm not there yet, and no one should want me in that way at the present time (if they do there's something wrong with them and I don't want to be with them).
Sorry you're having this problem but kudos to you for continuing to be who you are regardless.
