This is Simon, Jack's roommate. Simon isn't able to make himself appear human, so he has to take most of his classes online. However, part of the innate magic of fu dogs allows them to look like more normal dogs. Something like a Tibetan mastiff, which is not exactly unobtrusive. Because of this, Simon has helped Jack overcome a crippling phobia of dogs.
