Many dragons demand the sacrifice of a beautiful virgin in exchange for leaving a village in peace. More often than not, the girl is merely a meal. The lucky ones are considered too beautiful to devour and are instead taken back to the dragon's domain to be his servant. A dragon can have many servants, but will often have a favorite. He will give his favorite the finest adornments in his hoard. Very rarely, this favorite can become more than a servant.

Being in love with a human is generally taboo among dragons. If the rumor comes out that a dragon has fallen in love with a human, they are persecuted. Other dragons may choose to come after this 'impure' couple, whether by killing the human, the dragon, or both.

If the persecutor fails, he will likely lose his life. A custom among human-smitten dragons is to wear the skull of the dead assailant, as a warning to all those who might attempt the same thing.
