I'm a little confused, when Addac bit and slashed Marine did that not break the rules of hand-to-hand, or do the hand-to-hand rules in this universe primarily just mean only physical attacks and no magic?

The case would be the second. All the physical attacks are allowen and no use of magic. The only rules to break on this beside the magic would be he bite Marines neck or slash his neck or guts (Basically try any letal move) Beyond the 2 main rules (no magic and no try a letal move) they are pretty on what they can to do the other. Bite, scratch, kick, punch, etc is valid.
