Another game art. this time Final fantasy the first one.
before it all became soapopera quasi philosophical nonseanse dialoges and head screwing plots you couldt follow unless you bought the game encyclopedia ( there is such thuings. ff9 have one to explain the events of the game) Before all brooding angsty teenage cardboard cut outs.
Theres a set number of ff titles i like. number 1,4,6,9 and 12. Garland is Probebly still the most bad ass ffvillian, sure he dosent do much, but he´s a normal knight in a kick ass armour and he has a cape.
Also Sephiroth is just damn pale copy Of Psaro the manslayer from DQ4. http://dragonquest.wikia.com/wiki/P....._the_Manslayer and he can join youre party

Ah. Marilith. Kraken. Lich. Tiamat. And Garland/Chaos. Complete with Back to Zero.
While FFI holds the title of being THE MOST DIFFICULT RPG GAME EVER MADE. Seriously, I've never been able to complete it in its original difficulty mode! >_<
As for your list, my list would add numbers VII, VIII & X to it. That's it really.

Okay, yeah: You're the man.
This is a kickass pic, first of all. Get that out of the way right off. Second, you're 100% right about the FF series. 1, 4, 6 and 9 were amazing games, and the others were so angsty/gimmicky that I quickly ceased to care what was going on. :P
The four fiends are iconic villains and Garland is just straight-up badass. Maybe his plot was a little contrived, but it still felt good to just kick in the door and wail on him.
Psaro the Manslayer is awesome. In fact at the risk of starting a flame war, I would put Dragon Quest IV up against any title in the Final Fantasy series as the better game (except possibly FF6).

oh yes. the DQ series is acctually much darker then FF. But i think its overlooked for its animestyle of characters where FF try to have "realistic" looking characters. I have yet to see a FF game where one of youre long term companions dies after the final boss has been defeated due to the fact she was already dead and living in the dreamworld the final boss created and she was the heroes love intrest. Also DQ9 hade that sad and creepy episode of the little sick girl and her replica doll and dq6 hade you visit the dream version of a dead boy.
That page on Psaro is wrong. How could they even forget? "One of the first transforming final bosses if not THE first?" Psssht! ....What about the Dragonlord? Remember Dragon Warrior, the original Dragon Quest game for the NES? http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads.....on_warrior.gif

I love the old styled final fantasies. But... Can't help but notice you skipped over my personal fave, 5. I can understand why, it came later thanks to not being translated at all, and the story can be a bit confusing, but I thought it was iconic... least since it was the first FF I played.
Ah FF9, a personal favourite and a good example of characters. After 7 and 8 and their whiney protagonists it was good to have a main character with humour and energy and he still managed to have a moment more piercing than either of them. The four guardians are looking very cool in this and an exceptionally hot example of Maliris, why are four armed warrior girls so much fun?
