A relationship founded on love always has a tendency to go up and flames. This link is very related. http://youtu.be/rv_Xkz9zepI?t=20m47s
Also, we have to take into consideration the inherent lack of ethical precedence in a working duo. The ethics formed within a two man company are vastly different than the ethical principals found in a large company when referring to a professional working relationship. I say this because of the scale of the operation. The morality of the 2 directly dictate the terms of ethics they share as a working partnership. Therefore, far removed form what most of us would consider normal business conduct. By scale itself, the terms of their working relationship is far more akin to a personal relationship as their morality is weighed as a whole to create their ethical principal. This being said, we can see why, contextually, the idea of respect vs. love is relevant in this comic.
I remember when I first read this comic, I didn't really know what to think -- from the scenes you depict, Cris seems like an aloof, intimidating jerk with a temper, so how could anyone like or respect him? But that's the way relationships work sometimes, you can't fully explain what draws you to a person, it can be a deeply-felt connection. So thanks for sharing this story Floe, it definitely stuck with me.
