for a brief moment I thought this was a tribute to Monster hunter 3 ultimate with the monster hunter cooking next to the fallen monster he/she just defeated

That's what his mages are for. they read the books for him, And fun fact. Aural decoy is a viable tool when fighting him (makes it soooo much easier to cut his tail off)
