In the game, the Gorath were a little more advanced than the other player races, so I made their ships smoother looking than the Solanan vessels. They had also been all but wiped out by a plague, which I assumed would have left the material aspects of their civilization intact, at least at first. Therefore I pictured a culture where a tremendous amount of material wealth gets concentrated into the hands of the few survivors, but at the same time, there's not enough people to keep everything running. I took my inspiration from decaying Soviet military hardware, and the old American cars still on the streets of Cuba to design the Gorath ship as a big, fancy barge of a ship that's not in the best of shape.
