Hahaha it's not magical. I've thought about livestreaming but I personally find the concept SO boring for a viewer that I can't bear to do it.
People do it all the time so I'm probably wrong. But, really, painting takes hours and it's just hours of moving a brush around. I totally wouldn't want to watch that.

*chuckles and nods in agreement*
As you say, it is just “moving a brush around”, but I guess what watchers are really trying to discover is what is it exactly that tells the artist to move his brush around in that particular area and in that particular fashion? But of course that “it” is what makes an artist an artist and no video, TV show or HOW-TO book can ever pass that on to the viewer or reader.

Haha, to be honest, i think watching those are unproductive. Art is a skill. Just like plumbing, being a lawyer, or math. Sure, certain peoples brains may be better suited to one over the other and their personalities as well, but really it's just a skill. Skills have to be LEARNED. People watch those and I feel like they're just buying into the fantasy that being good at art is some kind of magic, rather than the product of training and hardwork.
If you want to get better, don't watch a video of someone painting, go out and paint.

As a classical musician I have my own impressions of others who find what I do "magical" or who ask me how I do it. I don't know -- I just do. They also don't understand when I'm dissatisfied with my work.
I'm with them on this. I think I could probably guess and infer some reason for agreeing with you on your work, recent or not, but that's not the point. You do what you do, you find your own enjoyment in it, and you fix what you need to fix. Your own disappointment means that you'll eventually get there. I think you're wise to step back and build up your ego before jumping back into the tasks that challenge your spirit.
I loved watching this process .gif. I have not the first clue how you visual artists do what you do. I can draw stick figures. You have my deep admiration. Keep up the [honestly] good work.
