I think when it came time to put together the Australian animals, God (by which IU mean the dark Elder Beings) had to use all the left over parts and just threw some crap together.

Echidnas belong to a tiny family of animals known as monotremes. Monotremes don't have nipples, they secrete milk for their babies like sweat from special pores in their bellies. Unless you're talking about some other form of real estate, those "vast tracts of land" will be markedly unsatisfying to visit.
