A birthday gift for my lady,

Time for rambling commentary!
What it also is me trying a hell of a lot of things for the first time. This is the first time I did anything more than a sketch. The first time I had more than one character. First time I had a picture where something was actually happening. First time I tried coloring. Et cetera. Et cetera. Et cetera.
Not really sure if it's a good idea to give a gift that's also me trying so many new things. I probably should have practiced first instead of having this be the practice. But it took me two weeks to do this, so I didn't have much time to do anything else. I rushed that couch in like half an hour.
It was gonna have a background, but I ran out of time, and I didn't really know how to do a background. Probably would have taken away from everything else. But there was gonna be a window behind the couch, looking outside towards water, and it would be down. That's why the picture if kinda dark and the light is coming from behind everything. Honestly, though, it's still the best picture I've made yet. So I'm rather proud of it.
Not sure if I should be rambling so much on the description for a gift picture. Then again, it's not like I was gonna leave my artistic progress undocumented. This is my summer of trying to suck less at art! Gotta document this stuff. Or maybe that's just me being a software engineer and thinking everything needs to be documented. One of those.
This was my first time coloring. It's hard as fuck. Well...just tedious and tricky really. It's the details that are just time consuming. Freaking fur is like hard to do. I'd say this is a decent first attempt, though. At least it looks somewhat fluffy, right? Right?
The coloring, shading and stuff, I picked that up from watching other artists. Well, looking at how they do art. And a few tutorials. Specifically this one: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10168103/ Should mention that, so no one accuses me of stealing methods. This is totally legal, right?
Is it perfect? No. There's certainly room for improvement, but hey, this is a hell of a lot better than what I made the other week or month ago. And progress is progress. I can only get better with time. Now hopefully spending a fortnight on this won't end up being detrimental to that progress. I don't think so. I learned new things. Hopefully I will continue to learn and continue to improve.
