There's a similar enemy in the Etrian Odyssey series called a fury horn. Not quite as shiny but definitely not to be mistaken for a weak enemy. The first time you meet one in any of the games they're strong enough to wipe out your whole party unless you run. Its roar causes confusion. It really sucks when your strongest attacker gets confused and kills your healer in one hit. It's a good series though if a bit tough.
You can play them in any order. Like starting with III wouldn't be a bad idea. I really like III. I have the fourth one but haven't played it yet. I'm busy with other games like Animal Crossing New Leaf right now. The most recent one is supposed to be pretty good though. From what I've heard.
