Rene covered his mouth as he yawned and pressed the buzzer to the Blackclaw residence. He expected to be greeted by some servant or butler, so he was understandably surprised when Nikki herself opened the door for him. More amazingly, she didn’t look blurry or sleepy-eyed or anything. She was dressed, her hair and nails were all done and she looked wide-awake.
“Nikki?” Rene blinked in surprise. “I thought you’d be in bed.” She shrugged.
“Thought I’d see you off myself…besides I have an appointment with my personal trainer this morning. Might as well get started early.” Rene looked at her askance.
“…Before SIX?”
“It’s the early pidgey that gets the worm.” She motion inwards. “Might as well wait inside for your girlfriend to show.”
“I don’t know that she’s my—” Rene faltered as Nikki whirled around and stared him down.
“Well,” She said mischievously as she turned back around, “Maybe that’ll change after today.”
Rene looked at her strangely as they headed in. “I’d ask if you were up to something but that would be a stupid question.” He looked around. “Wow. You’re home is so big and dark and…spooky.”
“If you make a crack about it being like me and I’ll pluck your tails.” Nikki gave a half-grin as she displayed her claws.
“Duly noted.” Rene acknowledged.
“Still, it only looks dark because it’s early and there’s barely anyone here.” Nikki explained. “You can take a look around for a bit if you want. Just give a shout if you get lost.”
“Very funny.” Rene rolled his eyes as he made his way down a hallway. “Like anything’s going to happen to—AAAH!” His heart leapt into his throat as a pair of red eyes glowed against the back drop of the dark wall in front of him. Soon the body attached to those eyes emerged from the shadows.
“AHH—I mean AAHH-lo! Hello! Hello, Tenebra!” Rene said with the friendliest, least threatening face he could make. The large mightyena rolled her eyes skywards.
“Move.”
“Um, kay.” Rene moved to his right…at the same second Tenebra moved to HER left. Then came the awkward dance of ‘trying to step past someone who was trying to move past you and you were trying to move past them.’ After the fourth time they had both simultaneously moved in the same direction, blocking one another again, Tenebra growled.
She grabbed Rene by the collar, lifted him up and deposited him behind her. Then she walked off, leaving Rene blinking. “Huh…I’m still alive. Go figure.”
Shaking his head, Rene continued exploring the Blackclaw house. Despite coming from a fairly wealthy family himself Rene didn’t live in the same sort of luxury that Nikki did. His dad was not very ostentatious…nor was he social or athletic, thus eliminating the need for a lot of the sort of material that was common in the Blackclaw home.
Nothing showed that as evidently as the Olympic sized swimming pool located behind one of the doors Rene peaked inside. “Wow…” Rene said as he stepped inside and went right up to the edge of the pool. He had a swimming pool in his backyard but it wasn’t any larger or fancier than one you’d find in a middle-class home. It was probably the only thing in his house that had an athletic or semi-athletic feel to it.
Rene turned around to leave when he suddenly felt something grab onto his tail!
“Floofy tail!” He heard a bubbly feminine voice giggle. Rene yelped and spun around. “Ahh! Mitzi?!” He goggled as the growlithe grabbed onto the pool ledge.
“Hi!” She grinned. “What’re you doing here?”
“I was about to ask you the same question.” Rene said as he held his hand over his heart, just to make sure it wasn’t in danger of bursting.
“Wow. That’s some coincidence, huh?” The growlithe asked.
Rene sighed. “…Mitzi, what are you doing here?”
“I’m having a sleepover with Nicole.” She replied.
“I gathered that, but why are you swimming at six in the morning?”
“Cause its fun silly! Duh!” She said as she raised herself out of the pool. Rene clapped a hand over his eyes.
“…and the reason you’re naked is what?”
Mitzi looked down at herself and flushed. “Whoopsies,” she grinned this time a bit sheepishly as she lowered herself back down into the water. “Heh. Forgot to bring my suit over.”
“…Of course you did.” Rene sighed, shaking his head and casting his gaze skywards. “Of course you did. They come to me, they always come to ME…how do they find me?”
“Uh, you’re the one who opened the door.” Mitzi pointed out, missing the rhetorical nature of the question.
“Yes, yes I was.” Rene groaned then paused as he realized that he had just bumped into the third member of Team Jet this morning. Sensing a pattern he felt obliged to ask, “Um, Methelza’s not here is she?” He asked anxiously, then sighing in relief when Mitzi shook her head.
“Nope.”
“Well, good. That’s good.” He breathed. “I’ll see you some other time Mitzi. Have fun.”
“Okay! I will! But where are you going?” She asked.
“Hmm? Oh, I’m taking Nicole skiing.” Rene said distractedly as he made his way out, leaving the canine looking confused. In retrospect, he should’ve seen what was coming next.

The sad thing is that NIkki bought her a couple of swimsuits to leave over at their house but now Mitzi can't ever remember where they are. Actually I think the reason Nikki doesn't tear Rene apart can be summed up as:
Nikki: Fear me!
Rene: Ok, I do!
Nikki: Oh. Well, let's move on then...
