just that is the type of person Marcus actually is he can't stand it to just let things be, he has this impetus to outdo others in some way. or if nothing else just to prove you're not as bad as you think you are, there is sometimes someone that is able to take you down a peg. it is the only way Marcus can make his life mean something, or rather it is a path Marcus has to make his own life have meaning. Also it tasks his victims to do better and find a way to excell or figure out how to combat his influence.

so he's evil, or so it seems. he eventually only wants someone that is an equal eventually. ie a drinking buddy or someone to spar with.
