During his FIRST mission as a Genin, the mission turned deadly, becoming an S Class mission in a matter of minutes. Sune was killed in a vicious attack that Gi barely survived himself. When the dust settled, Gi summoned up all of his chakra and continuously performed handsigns for over 5 hours over Sune's dead body, attempting to bring the fox back to life, 'til his hands were bleeding badly. He was forced to stop by his sensei and squad leader (Sarutobi Kariu), but whatever jutsu had gone through caused a reaction that sealed the remaining forces of life in the fox into Gi's body, forming something of a permenant Man-Beast Transformation. Years later, he had passed through rank after rank, quicker than most, even going through ANBU, but eventually became a squad leader. Even today, Gi tries to find a way to seperate the spirit from himself and restore his and the fox's body.
