I think she's doing it, if only because, that's where pyrite was when she was alive, kind of like those stereotypical pirates, with the parrot on the shoulder. Even though Pyrite is dead, Beryl refuses to entirely let go. Kinda eery.

actually in this case in thier culture thier pets are often preserved in various ways. its a sign of reverence for the pet as its never truely forgotten that way. While i don't particularly agree with that practice, considering thats mostly what pyrite's function was when she was alive, it would stand to reason Beryl would have her for that purpose when she was dead. It may seem sick to us but in thier culture its actually perfectly normal.

Beryl definitely has issues..... and not accepting blame for the situation is a big one. Max needs to grow a couple and stand up for his opinion. While Hector's organ condition is still pretty good considering what he has done to himself over a couple hundred years, to be locked in a toxin paralysis leaving you a prisoner in your own head, is one of those things almost everyone has nightmares about.

Max is... well he's not a highblood and its been a bit browbeaten into thier culture that highbloods are the world order and aside from cobalt, Darius titan and Beryl, none of the crew knows of what happened at home so its business as usual. Also highbloods have a reputation for loosing their temper you don't really want to piss one off. Darius was a different level of crazy to think he could tempt fate as long as he did.

Ahhhh... did not realise there was such a marked difference in rank between these two..... can see now why he is biting back o his opinion. I guess as an engineer myself I overestimated the importance of Maxfield's role as ship's engineering head.
I guess if Titan and Beryl are typical for their station, then I'd be a little more reticent as well when it came to telling them they are full of it!
