Nicole looked out of the window Saturday morning. It was still dark out. “I can’t believe I got up at five in the morning.” She groaned, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. “I can’t believe there IS a five in the morning!”
“Don’t be anxious, hon.” Big Momma Zuna urged her daughter as Nicole passed back and forth in the living room. “You just focus on having a good time with René…and remember not to kill the poor boy.”
“Unless he tries something funny, then you can wallop him into the snow.” Mr. Zuna said, feeling a protective impulse towards his little girl.
“Now if she did that, then she'd have to carry him around back to his house.” Mrs. Zuna pointed out reasonably.
“Good point.” He conceded. “Even with broken bones he might try to take advantage of her.”
“It’s just for one day!” Nicole exclaimed, albeit a bit sleepily. “I’m not going to carry him, and he won’t take advantage of me. If anything, I’d try to take advantage of him!” She saw a simultaneous rising of both of her parents’ brows. She blushed. “That didn’t come out right.”
“Oh I don’t know.” Nicolas grinned as he came down the stairs, still in his sleepwear. “Poor foxboy doesn’t know what he’s in for.” He smirked at his twin.
Nicole grumbled “Shut up.”
“Dear, in all seriousness you are going to be alone with a boy in a situation that is terribly romantic.” Big Momma said, unable to keep a sigh out of her voice.
“Who knew René had it in him?” Nicolas quipped.
Nicole and Big Momma cast a warning glance his way. “I’ve been on my own with boys before.” Nicole crossed her arms. “Sexton for one and HE’S got a rap sheet. René wouldn’t harm a fly.”
“He isn’t capable of it.” Nicolas quipped. “Literally.” Nicole made a fist, only unclenching it when her mom cast her a warning look.
“I know you have dear…” Mrs. Zuna said delicately. “But you’ve never been alone—miles away from your family or any adults responsible for you—with a boy you like. LIKE like.” She added when Nicole opened her mouth to object that she liked Sexton.
Nicole looked down and mumbled. “You’re making a bigger deal out of this than it really is.” Shaking her head knowingly, her mother leaned down and gave her daughter a hug.
“Sweety…I’m not.” She whispered into her ear. “You’re starting something very special with that boy, I can tell. He thinks the world of you and I KNOW you feel the same way.” Nicole’s cheeks grew hot. “I’m not trying to embarrass you,” Big M. “Right now at least. I just know that your usual impulse is to face things head on like you would in a battle. But cheesy sayings aside, a relationship is NOT like a battle. Take it easy, take it slow. And please…don’t scare the poor boy.”
“…Okay mom.” Nicole sighed as she hugged her mother.
“…This doesn’t mean you can’t wear those nice tight ski pants I got you and show off a little.” Big Momma added with a smirk.
“MO-OOM!!!”
“The cab is here.” Mr. Zuna called as he looked out the window.
“OlookatthatIbettergetgoingbye!” Nicole gulped and made to dash off. “I’ll see you guys later tonight.”
“Have fun dear.” Mrs. Zuna hugged her before she could make good her escape.
Mr. Zuna joined her. “Be safe.” Nicole barely managed to squeak out an “Okay,” as she squirmed her way free of their grasp.
Nicolas pounded her on the back. “Have a good trip…and I mean GOOD!” Then he ran before his sister could bop him.

Tight pink ski pants! XD
You know, I had a flash of a "what if" scene from an earlier chapter in this tale, when the Zuna's and Rene were sitting down to eat. It went something along the lines of Nicolas getting an opportunity to take a stab at Rene and saying he wears women's underwear.
At which point Mr. Zuna begins waxing philosophical about the subject -- "Oh, I used to do the same thing when I was a boy!" -- and how it's good for a young man's growth or some such. To the collective shock and embarrassment of all involved, of course.
