Actually, the worst nuclear problem we've had in the US was Three Mile Island. And TMI had a very minimal leak of radioactive materials into the environment, and had little short-term environmental impact and NO long term impact.

Chernobyl, on the other paw, was a bad boom - except that those were reactors even the Russians admitted were sucky, and were run under conditions that would never have been allowed to occur in the US.
