A few days ago, I was thinking about all those monsters I drew that were supposed to go into some type of Final Fantasy Tactics style game, and at the time I was thinking of the upcoming Skylanders game: SWAP Force, when I came up with an idea. Although I'm not all that excited for SWAP Force (I feel the game itself might be decent, but the designs are starting to get ugly. Countdown is pretty cool though) the idea of swapping out different body parts was intriguing. And with all my characters, the FFT style game itself was actually a spin-off idea to a series I made up called Battle Monsters which was a fighting game containing all the creatures. And then, the idea of Battle Monsters SPLICED came.
Battle Monsters SPLICED is a more gritty, gnarly looking version of Battle Monsters where the characters look less cutesy and more edgy. As well, it's set in the future where a new type of magic has been discovered: Splice Magic. This type of magic allows one to swap body parts with other Monsters to create a different creature. Normally, monsters must have anothers permission before doing so, but some evil splices take body parts against ones will. In addition, there are also Soul Splicers, who can switch between body parts of victims they have killed. Only true evil monsters become Soul Splicers.
Each race has 4 different parts: Head, Arms, Legs and Back. Most splicers do not switch heads, as there is not much point since Splicers will keep the same brain regardless. The head contains Intelligence and Cunning. Arms are where a lot of attack strength is, control Strength, Punch, and Flexibility. In addition, certain arms are specialized at using certain weapons. Legs are the foundation of a creature, controlling Speed, Acrobatics, Kick, and Stability. The Back is where things like tails, shells and wings are. The back more or less means the natural weapon of a creature, so even something like Sarvo's trunk counts as "Back." The "Back" gives creatures new abilities.
Posm Analysis.
HP: Great
Overall Attack: Average
Overall Defense: Good
The Posm race changed greatly in appearance, but little in morals. The garden variety Posm are still particularly friendly, but like in the past: Evil Posms are generally nasty. Although originally not built so: Posm chose a preference in defensive fighting styles, which caused their bodies to become more massive, but their legs shrunk.
Head
Intelligence: Bad
Cunning: Average
Bio: Posm are not that bright. Posms were born fighters, not magic users, and cannot use magic well. They are determined, though, and can survive a long time in a fight. They're not to bad at setting traps or calling traps, but not adept to it.
Arms:
Strength: Average
Punch: Good
Flexibility: Bad
Weapon: Short Sword.
Bio: Posm aren't wusses. They can through a decent punch and lift objects well enough, even with a struggle. Posm are generally slow, and can not use their arms creatively, which means no hand-stands or any other silly maneuvers can be preformed well by a Posm.
Legs
Speed: Bad
Acrobatics: Awful
Kick: Bad
Stability: Great
Bio: The shrinkage of their legs and growth of their body made them very slow and ungainly, however they are incredibly steadfast, able to stand strong through massive blows better than most races can. Their legs adapted to their defensive fighting style.
Back
Weapon: Monstrous Tail
Bio: Posm have great, massive tails which are stronger and more flexible and agile than the entire rest of their body. They can easily hang onto trees and ledges, and grab and use objects like a third arm. You don't want to be around an angry Posm as its mighty tail lashes about.
Ending Notes: This is the first time I've ever drawn an opossum that actually looks like an opossum.
