That's a Black Vulture, one of two species found in the U.S. and Canada, the other is a Turkey Vulture. Good Job! Black Vultures are the less common of the two...

Yes I know. That's why in the keywords, Black Vulture is posted. However, in Texas, they're just called buzzards. :)

Yeah I own a farm in Tennessee...my neighbors call them buzzards...they think they kill livestock cause where ever there's a dead cow or something there are always buzzards eating them...but I have to explain that buzzards don't kill them, they clean up the mess. I had one neighbor who had several dead calves and was going down to shoot the buzzards so I went with him and showed him the fresh Coyote tracks and said THERE'S your killers. He has now given me unlimited permission to hunt Coyotes on his farm!

I hunt for self-sufficiency and use every part of the animal I can. I get $20 to $100 for Coyote pelts here.

Black Vultures hand around Lakesides more often and seem to have a preference for dead fish or drowned animals.

Yes, I know all of this already ^^ I'm quite intelligent in the avian world. And those who think buzzards HUNT are very stupid. They are carrion eaters, meaning they eat roadkill or any animal for that matter that is dead.

Ahhh a fellow Birder! I do bird photography...It has been my specialty for 20 years. I have been a birder for 30 years now. In a week or so, the Cedar Waxwings invade my yard and I will be taking pictures for weeks.

I like the Warblers and woodpeckers as a group...and Crows...
