Heres an interesting thing, 229 doesn't blame anyone for Pyrite's death other than Pyrite herself. He laments at his lack of ability to stop her, his lapse in judgement at turning her back on her, and feels he could have done a better job protecting her. He's sad, but he knows the only one truely at fault here is the one whose no-longer breathing.
Another point to note, Beryl has more than one domestic sirenidae. When Darius mentioned she was mostly brought along for breeding purposes he didn't just mean to be a mate to titan, she also is a domestic sirenidae breeder, and a geneticist regulator. One of her jobs at home was to be a gene scrubber of the genetic material breeding partners would send in to make children, she performs a dumbed down version of this on missons so that the breeding stock of the aliens isn't compromised when they take over a planet.
The domestic Sirenidae looking rather unsympathetic is Pyrite's Half-sibling Goldi. In case your wondering, shes not at all upset by the recent demise of her "sister"

For one who was introduced as a simplistic tool, as a spy and deceiver, 229 has shown a depth of character development that has quickly elevated him to much more that just a 'trained monkey'.
His realistic soldier's outlook and logic combined with compassion and understanding has made him so much more than the minor plot device he could so simply have remained.
As for Beryl and her Sirenidae, there looks to be what could be jealousy and/or distaste in the family over the sadness Beryl is displaying. Having more than one pet does not dilute the pain of loss and it will be interesting to see if Beryl has the maturity of 229 to properly allocate guilt for the situation.
Actually, from here on in I think I will have to refer to 229 as Puppy.....

if i did it may not appear in the main storyline, but i do have a habit of creating alot of secondary material through random sketches and whatnot so i think its a distinctive possibility. (i literally am making this up as i go along, yes there's plot that's roughly planned out but if the opportunity presents itself for thier history to come into focus i'll take it)
She died a soldier's death, she should have the final honor any soldiers hopes receive. Send her home, to be lifted upon the arms of her fellows, and placed beneath the trees of her home.
Dramatic Dr Greymyst is dramatic.
Oddly though, I sort of knew that she'd be sent home to Beryl. Brought a tear to my eye though seeing "Puppy" holding Pyrite like that, his pain and sorrow are almost tangible. And I cannot help but feel sorry for Beryl, and it shows that even those who may be our foes are still 'Human' to use the term loosely, and deserve if not our respect, than at least compassion.

So do I :( I want to hug him, but I think Bane has that covered at this point.
Of course, I can imagine Sylvian stopping what he is doing when the box goes by, the rest of Medical doing the same. In a place where violence is usually such an uncommon thing, the death of even one so small and corrupted as Pyrite is still something of a shock.
