And so I ask myself that exact question this weekend. What exactly did I do to you to deserve what you’ve been throwing at me?
What am I talking about ?
Well lemme start with the fact my entire weekend has gone to dust since yesterday when a serious of rather unpleasant events happened to me in Real Life.
Then someone, and yes you know who you are, says this to me:
3:32 PM - stranger: You use references? Really?
3:32 PM - [Khat] Friedrich: why wouldn’t i use reference?
3:33 PM - [Khat] Friedrich: If i want to get something as realistic as i want it to look then yes, i need to see how it looks like in real life
3:33 PM - stranger: Thought it was pure talent!
So the fact I use references for my drawings makes me untalented? Or wait, Am I doing something wrong by using a reference to try and improve my art? Yes well if you don’t like how I’m drawing and the pieces I so eagerly and freely provide our AMAZING no less, Fandom with, THEN UNFOLLOW ME, THANK YOU.
And then a little after that, I try to comfort a person I consider my Friend and their OC [yes with that little piece of art I made] and suddenly FIRST THING IN THE GOD DAMN MORNING I’m being attacked and insulted for it.
My question is.. Since when is it a sin to try and comfort a friend? Thought so. - I was told that person apologized, but I didn’t see any apology straight to my face, or at least my monitor from said person so I can hardly believe that. Well yes I do believe they have because my source is one i trust with my life but … Why not say it to my face?
Yes well, since then my weekend has been nothing but misery because I lost all of my motivation to doodle, art or even have conversations with people. My rp replies are shitty and yeah. Thank you kind people of the fandom … Hope you continue being amazing.
And on top of that I didn't even get to spend any proper time with my soldier the entire week and this weekend... Everything's just going against me. Even the smallest things that make me happy *sigh*
Of course i’ll recover from this as I always do but the fact stands… Why are you being like this? WHAT have I done to you?

Anyone who gives you shit for using reference has no idea what the fuck they are talking about. Every single professional in the art industry uses references. This post makes me so mad. It's like a stigma if you use references people automatically say you have no talent. It is completely the opposite. It is common sense to use references for SO MANY REASONS.
Experience: Professors are professional artists in the 3D and Concept art Industry and I have gone to high end art schools (not that my art talent is very good yet ;p). Every-time the same thing is mashed into our heads. If you don't use reference you are wrong and you will suck.

I know the exact feeling your in right now... I try and help friends...I get critisized
I try to catch up on something... I get crtisized
I make characters for my own enjoyment...I get critsized...
I got freaked out on because I had a custom TF2 class...
It's a horrible feeling...I've felt it...I just hope it gets better fast for you... ;_;

The will to get better and produce things I can share with others are my main drives really. It's just sad when this is what I get form people that watch me, follow me and they don't even do art, let alone know a thing about it... Just really.. I spend hours on my pieces. Just really meh *hugs*
Professional artists use references all the time. Art couldn't be made without a reference, especially if you want something to look precise. There are only a handful of people in the entire world who posses a memory strong enough to memorize enough detail to replicate art after viewing something one time. Sometimes, I do feel guilty about using references. But if I didn't, my pieces wouldn't turn out the way I wanted them to. Using references to make art makes you a BETTER artist. And you are AMAZING. You keep on doing what you do, and in the way you do it.
As far as comforting friends goes, the only person who matters is the one you're trying to make feel better. If someone makes fun of you for it or says something hurtful, then you should feel worse for them. The people who mind don't matter, and the people who matter don't mind. I think that piece is amazing and beautiful by the way. :) It made ME feel better. People who mock you for what you do are just jealous that they don't posses the same talent or passion.

nobody is perfect, nobody can create something totally without reference.
I use reference, my family use reference, peoples I know use reference.
The great artist in past use reference, the religion used reference in the logic and nature.
Reference is not copy and paste, when you take a idea to make something other or different, is not copy paste.
So, a art popular and you reproduct when we know what this the origine, is a different story.
When you draw a medic in TF2 and we know is TF2, you reproduct a draw who we can say you copy right, but is a reproduction of fan who is little different.
I use reference, my family use reference, peoples I know use reference.
