Got to play around with lighting a bit, had some fun. Also hard to change a really cartoony character into.. less cartoony. I think this was as far as I could stretch it myself.

I like where you went with this mate (just had a quick flick through the owners gallery so I could see how you'd changed him from non-cartoony). It came out well. The purple stands out, and is really vivid in contrasting with the other colours in the piece.
The shading on the glass in the lantern is really effective, it gives a good sense of dimension to it. The glow on the cigarette is similarly well done.

Had a neat little story about how I did each thing you mentioned, but yeah.. really like how the purple came out, the lantern was kind of an accident that I liked a lot, and the cigarette was fun to play with. Mostly just had fun attempting to toy with dim light conditions, with a high contrast light source at one spot. I usually never do a proper light source though.
