If you know anything about the attitude of mockingbirds you likely know a great deal about Marl. If not, then let me educate you on mockingbirds: They are energetic, feisty, belligerent little birds that are always looking for an excuse to fight and have never found a challenge too great to face head on. The origin of this passion is not aggression, but instead an affinity for combat: the love of battle and the desire to prove and improve oneself against stronger and stronger odds. Marl is one of the nicest guys you’ll run across on the great miasma gulfs, willing to stick his neck out for even the most petty of cause and refusing to turn his back on a back in need of defending, but he’ll punch you in the face before he ever shakes your hand. Fighting is not just a way of life, it is a way to feel alive, and Marl lives as hard and as fast as they come. He values the freedom of the open breeze; even though he is flightless the skies are still in his blood. He has never set foot on dry land has no desire to ever do so. Both in terms of character and in terms of the literal, Marl is one that can never be called ‘dirty.’
Mockingbirds are known for their ability to duplicate any birdsong they hear, and Marl has a versatile voice even for mockingbirds. He can mimic most voices after mere moments of listening, and can change his accent at will. He loves to sing and has an impressive range, although if you ever compliment him on this he will shut up out of shyness immediately. He also has the peculiar ability to lay eggs, though he’s very much male, and can even do it on command. He’s able to rapidly process items through his digestive tract, allowing him to swallow an object whole and lay an egg encased around that very object within moments of swallowing it. He mostly does this as a parlor trick, but has been known to use it as a particularly embarrassing, and non-fatal, finishing move for a fight on more than one occasion.
