Raised in the heart of the jungle of Zarda among a tribe of feral felines, Nyesha didn’t speak a word of english until she was 10, when she snuck away from her village to follow a group of recently-mauled mercenaries back to civilization. Through a combination of fierce determination and insatiable curiosity she was able to pick up on the language and customs of a new world fairly quickly, and by the time of her graduation she was even near the top of her class in language, culture, and history assessments (science and arithmetic, however, continued to elude her). Once her education concluded and she was asked to integrate into society Nyesha’s rebellious spirit reappeared once more and led her to the coast of the Seven Breeze, where she joined with the crew of the first trading ship she could find and waited for its inevitable hijacking to abandon it for a life of piracy. The constant adventures associated with swashbuckling better suit her personality, but not enough to keep her from still getting queasy with homesickness every time she stares off into the endless horizon. The jungle remains strong in her, made manifest in her gruff voice, wild mood swings, and aggressive demeanor. She prefers to settle problems with actions instead of words and will often regress to cursing in a language of feral growls and hisses when frustrated to keep herself from lashing out where she knows she shouldn’t. Her native culture was one of surprising subtlety, with disputes more often settled by posturing and intimidation before escalating to the rare fight, which often concluded with serious consequences. That method of conflict resolution is still ingrained in her memory, and because of this she looses all her inhibitions in combat and holds no personal accountability for whatever resulting consequences may arise, even if she walks away with a full and squirming stomach afterward...
Even though she is well studied in modern social conduct, she remains a visitor in a foreign land, and as such often appears uncultured even by pirate standards. She chooses to clean herself like a cat would and often skirts her duties on the ship to take naps or hunt rats in the lower decks. She has great pride in her native culture, but it is a pride in a primitive lifestyle, which makes her priorities a bit lopsided and leads to considerable differences in understanding between herself and her crewmates. She spends a good deal of her time restlessly pacing through the bowels of the ship, disappearing sometimes for days to lurk in plain sight and stalk her fellow crewmembers for lazy sport.
