Whatever you folks celebrate on this date, my greetings and best wishes.
It is a bright sunny day here, perfect for some fun.
I had this picture planned for half a year, and -- as it turns out, luckily -- the artist I had it commissioned from said she couldn't do it, at least, in time.
So I was in a bit of a rush to check with two other awesome artists, RedCreator and firetally. Especially since Ana (Firetally) has asked for suggestions for May holiday-themed commissions a while before.
It was a very specific theme I gave her, the May pole celebration as it was originally in Eastern Europe. You know, not the intricate braid-weaving you know these days, especially in Eire, but the much more festive. Maypoles were the ancestors of the carousels -- when you run around quick, and the ribbons wrap up, coming shorter, you get swept off your feet, leaping first, then really getting into the air. And then, quite likely, bumping all together :)
I am really happy how it came out, though I wish I could see more people here... Those I love and like. I wish we could get all together and have fun.
And everyone here is drawn as a kid or teen -- because... Let's face it. We need to be young inside, less serious, more carefree, happier, light-hearted. We all need it an awful lot.
I wish happiness to everyone. Do make yourself a holiday -- on weekend if not today -- and have fun.

The dance as it is on Western side of Europe is more refined, but less lively. It consists of two circles of people, one going clockwise, other counterclockwise. And they alternate being inner and outer now and then (sometimes, each full circle, sometimes, more often), resulting in switching which ribbons end up on the outer layer, those going clockwise or counter, forming a kinda woven pattern around the pole (actually, knitting machines use the same principle).
Less fun, if you ask me, though :)
