List Time! Favorite 100 Pokemon: Part 1
LIST TIME!
Hey, guys! Danny here, with another List Time! for your entertainment, and possibly- no, DEFINITELY, the biggest one yet!
Now, I'm going to do something different here, as I'm not reviewing anything, rather, this is a project I've been trying to do for the longest time. Now, this is the third time I've tried to do a Pokémon-related project, but never got around to doing it out of... sheer laziness. This time, I've actually gotten around to pushing this, which is a list of my 100 all-time favorite Pokémon, yes, 100!
I am doing this to celebrate the arrival of the new installment to the series X/Y... which are going to be the first (main) 3D Pokémon games in the series, which FINALLY! It's about time we've moved onto 3D graphics!
Soooo... the list? Here's how it's gonna work; I'm not going to do all ten parts of this one after another, I'm going to release a new every now and then, to continue the list, until Part 10, starting with, obviously, Part 1. One thing about the list I should mention, and I need to make this clear:
These are my favorite Pokemon; statistically-speaking, not necessarily the best; that's a WHOLE 'nother lst.
One thing I do want to know is, if you guys have any favorite Pokémon, then tell me about it! I would love to hear which are your favorites... however do be mature about it.
The reason why I say that is, that if you're a Pokémon fan, then you know that the fanbase is rather... infamous. Believe me, another reason why I haven't done this until now, it's because these fans are a little... butt-hurt? Sensitive? Whiny?
Mind you, I'm generalizing here! I'm not talking about everybody, but if you'd like to share your opinions on which Pokémon you love, which ones you don't, why you'd disagree with me about a certain Pokémon, please be reasonable, critical, mature, and not, I repeat, NOT be drowned by either bitterness or nostalgia. I'm saying this right now, because I don't want any possible fights to break out in the comments. I've seen it happen WAY too many times over the stupidest things.
Okay, warning's outta the way, and my objective is ready, soooo... it's time for...!

#100. Electrode
Ah, what a better way to kick off the list than with a Pokémon that is both loved... and reviled! Well... why is that?
Evolving from Voltorb, Pokémon #101, Electrode, is what we call a "chest monster". He looks fine on the outside... until you get near it, then realize it attacks! Yeah... I'd be lying if I said this round son-of-a-bitch didn't catch me off-guard every now and again, and I'm not the only one!
But the worst part? "Explosion"... that's all that has to be said.
I do have to get this out of the way as well, why I do like the idea of Pokémon being able to camouflage themselves, the idea for Electrode (and Voltorb) of being a living Pokéball, conceptually, is just DUMB! Oh, you know what I'm talking about! Come on, tell me, the idea for a Pokémon being the very thing we use to catch them is pretty stupid, you can't tell me its not!
BUT I obviously love Electrode, otherwise he wouldn't be on the list. So why DO I love Electrode exactly? Well, I know I complained about the fact that the idea for Electrode's design is stupid, but it's the execution of his design that really elevates him to "better than expected" status. And it's mainly because of that friggin' grin he has on his face; you know when you see that grin, something is bound to go wrong... for you, that is. Electrode fits the bill in the description of a truly mischievous Pokémon, but... his biggest strength is his speed.
Electrode has a speed stat of 140! Making him the 6th fastest Pokémon in the game, not to mention, the fastest Electric-type Pokémon in the series. I have to admit... that always cracked me up:
"What's the fastest Electric-type Pokémon in the series? A lion? A squirrel? A hound?"
... a ball. A freaking ball!
Jolteon got his lightning-fast reflexes handed to him by a ball; and they both debuted in the same generation!
Keep on rollin' Electrode, keep on rollin'!
#99. Jirachi
Next up we have Pokémon #385, Jirachi, AKA. the Wish Pokémon.
I always found something... strange about Jirachi, even when compared to the other "cute, balanced legendaries". What I mean is, and I don't know if I'm the only one who's noticed this... but Jirachi is the one of the five who I've seen brought up the least. I could be wrong, but... I hardly ever see him in the games, so I don't know if I'm exaggerating here, but what I'm basically saying is that, Jirachi needs more love, he really does.
... so... if you're think it's hypocritical of me to rank him so low, allow me to explain why: his stats. His stats aren't terrible, he's balanced, as I already mentioned... but, that's it; his stats have nothing special to them. His moveset is another story, as he has a wide range of moves to choose from, you can arrange Jirachi to work however you want him to work, which is a plus.
But the thing that I love most about Jirachi is his design; it's both cute... and mysterious. Why mysterious? Because of his Eye of Truth... right on his stomach. It makes me wonder what he's capable of, being able to grant wishes and such.
I don't know. All I do know is that, I wish that Jirachi would show up more often.
#98. Vespiquen
Straight from Gen IV, we have the Beehive Pokémon herself, Vespiquen.
Before I go on, I need to say this: I hate bees; I FUCKING hate bees; I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had a bad experience with bees, but if you have... I sympathize with you.
So... how the hell did Vespiquen make it on the list? Well, quite a few things:
First, she's part of an all-female race of Pokémon... which is a plus for me.
Second, her stats. Vespiquen having a base total of 474 may not SEEM like much, unless you see how it's actually distributed. Her stats are split in such a way that it compliments her strengths (Defense and Special Defense), while... losing quite a bit on the Speed department. But for somebody like Vespiquen, who's meant to take a punch, I don't find this to be much of a problem.
Third, Vespiquen has a pretty wide and amazing moveset. Now this is what I love about Pokémon like Vespiquen, if you can arrange your Pokémon with whatever stats or moves in order to favor your strategy(ies), then they're definitely worth the trouble. With Vespiquen, you can make her a tank, a staller, or even an offensive battler! There are a lot of ways to create your Vespiquen of choice, especially with her three signature moves: Attack Order, Defend Order, and Heal Order. Ohh! It just makes me buzz with excitement!
(Yeah, yeah... terrible joke, I know!)
Lastly, there's her design. I just love Pokémon with a regal look to them, and it definitely fits Vespiquen, as she's the queen of the beehive. She is definitely a step in the right direction for Bug/Flying Pokémon.
Oh! I should also mention the fact that she's the only Bug Pokémon with the ability "Pressure"; which could be a nasty strategy, if you know how to use it right.
Truly, Vespiquen is a royal pain, but she packs quite a sting!
(No more bee puns, I swear!)
#97. Aggron
Aahhh, yeah! Now we're talking! At #97, we have the monstrous beast of rock and steel, the mighty Aggron!
I mean... I don't think I have to say much more, but I'll do so anyways!
Aggron, being the first Rock/Steel type Pokémon (along with the members of its family), you'd think that this beast would be heavy-hitter, monster of pure bulk and strength... and you'd be right! Statistically-speaking, Aggron is tied for having 4th highest Defense stat of all Pokémon, measuring at 180! It's tied with Cloyster for the same stat. Aggron's Attack stat ain't exactly something to sneeze at. Having an Attack stat of 110, you bet your ass this monster can do some serious property damage, specially when it holds moves like Heavy Slam and Head Smash at its disposal!
Sad to say though, Aggron is FAR fro perfect. Aggron has two crippilng weaknesses to Fighting and Ground, not to mention its Special Defense is... mediocre, at best, leaving it well exposed for some serious damage from Special attackers, especially if they are Water-type Pokémon.
Also, would you be surprised if you knew that Aggron was slow? His speed is pretty poor, which I know some aren't very fond of, but I don't really mind. Funny enough, Aggron is actually faster than the previously mentioned Vespiquen. What do you know?
Anyways, Aggron! Go get one yourself! Aggron definitely puts a whole new meaning to "heavy metal"!
#96. Lopunny
Ah... ah, yes... um... Lopunny. Um... would you be surprised if you were to have guessed that SHE would be on the list? No? Okay...
In all seriousness though, I do have one main reason why I love Lopunny...
... her stat distribution! Of course! You'd be surprised to see how this bunny works! As is natural for rabbits, it'd only make sense for Lopunny to be a fast Pokémon... and she is! Lopunny isn't necessarily THE fastest Normal-type, let alone the fastest Pokémon, but hey! A Speed stat of 105 ain't bad, right?
Her other stats I found to be rather... odd. Lopunny's next best stat is... Special Defense... then Defense...? Now Lopunny isn't a "tanker", but her Special Defense is surprisingly good, meaning she could potentially withstand a hit or two. Sadly, her decent defenses are off-set by her low HP, meaning that even if her defenses were maxed out, she wouldn't last too long in battle... which is why you train her to be fast and get her attack as high as you can, as Lopunny can cause some serious damage with the elemental punches, Drain Punch, and even Dizzy Punch! So she's got a lot of range...
... ah? Oh, her design? Oh... yeah... well... s-she's pretty. W-what more do you want me to tell you?
...
...
...
...
Okay! Lopunny's hot! I think Lopunny's hot! There! I said it! Sue me!
#95. Arcanine
Ah, here we have the Legendary Pokémon...
...oh! not A legendary, rather, the big... canine...? Whatever, Arcanine!
Pretty much every Pokémon fan out there loves Arcanine! And... can't you see why? He's a huge fiery dog, with the ability to crush ANYTHING in its way! Oh, yeah! THIS is the guard dog of your dreams!
Arcanine has a DAMN good Base Total of 555! Not too shabby! It's all fairly evenly distributed among Arcanine's stats, making him more of a balanced Pokémon, but a damn good balanced Pokémon. His attack can reach as high as 350, and with attacks like Flare Blitz, Earthquake and Close Combat, you better believe that this canine packs both bark and bite in a terrifyingly powerful Pokémon!
Like I said; THIS is the guard dog everybody needs; why worry about cat burglars, when they're incinerated like coal in a furnace? Am I right?
#94. Mismagius
Here's a Pokémon I don't see being brought up too often when one mentions good Pokémon, Mismagius. Part of me wonders why. Yeah, I know Mismagius isn't NEARLY as strong or as threatening as, say... Gengar. BUT, Mismagius is pretty great in her own right!
With the help of a Dusk Stone, you can evolve your Misdreavus into this mischievous magical entity, Mismagius. I gotta say, I always loved Mismagius' design, made to resemble a witch (or warlock), plus I think her cry really suits well to her nature.
Okay, let's talk stats. Being a Pokémon based around the idea of magic, you'd think it'd be very skewed to its special power... and she is! Mismagius, unsurprisingly, excels at both Special Attack AND Defense. Not only that, but she also excels at Speed! All three stats have a base of 105. I'll admit, it's not bad, it could worse. Mismagius' weak spot is her physical defense, which combined with her low HP, means she'll have a tough time dealing with physical opponents, but with the right moves, and a little bit of planning, you may have yourself an ally that's more powerful and destructive than she might seem.
Wicked and destructive. Quite bewitching, I must say.
#93. Marowak
Here's a Pokémon I have a pretty big soft spot for, Marowak. Also, yet another Pokémon who I rarely ever see on online matches. I wonder why...?
Oh, well. No time for that! Marowak evolves from the Lonely Pokémon, Cubone. I love the way that Marowak goes from being a poor, sad infant in a trek to find his missing mama, into a ferocious warrior of the elements... and bones!
Marowak has always been my favorite choice for a Ground-type back in the old days of Red/Blue; sure, he may not be as fast as a certain other Ground-type who debuted in the same generation, but Marowak has always been the most reliable to me, mainly thanks to his great defenses. Marowak's Defense stat can be as high as 350! And his Special Defense is actually fairly decent, being able to reach a maximum of 284.
But the thing I love most about Marowak... his Bone Club. Ah, yes! Marowak's mighty Bone Club, which DOUBLES Marowak's Attack stat. Believe me, Marowak's high defenses AND a dangerous attack stat? This is truly a badass warrior of the ground!
No more needs to be said, lest you want to be shown your place by Marowak's Bonmerang!
#92. Beheeyem
Hold onto your butts, you nostalgic fanboys, you! If you thought I was going to go through this entire list without a mention of a single Gen V Pokémon, then you came to the WROOONG list. Actually... let me say this right now. Most of the Pokémon on this list are Gen V Pokémon. Why? Because that generation introduced a lot, and I mean, a LOT of really awesome and memorable Pokémon, that I feel deserve more credit than what they're given.
Case in point? Beheeyem.
To be fair, Beheeyem isn't the first alien Pokémon to have ever been introduced (that honor goes to the Clefable family), but it is DEFINITELY the one to take the most advantage of its extraterrestrial origins.
And, hey! Who doesn't love aliens?
As far as its stats are concerned... this thing's a MONSTER! Having a Special Attack that can go as high as 383- as strong as Exeggutor!- and the fact that it can learn powerful special attacks that work with its wonderful Special Attack stat, not to mention Calm Mind; this Pokémon is not one you want to mess around with, ESPECIALLY, if they have Analytic as their ability, and these Pokémon aren't known for being fast... so Beheeyem is a KILLING machine! Holy FUCK can this Pokémon destroy so much ass!
Black/White introduced a lot of great Psychic Pokémon, and this one is no exception! Beheyeem is an encounter worth giving a closer look too!
(Lol. Forced much?)
#91. Genesect
What a great way to wrap up the first part of a gigantic list, than with the very first Bug-type legendary in the Pokémon roster, as well as the last Pokémon on the Unova Pokédex, Genesect!
Here we have the undeniably badass master of all bugs, a mechanical-insect like contraption, formed by the evil plotting from the... fairly-competent Team Plasma, in order to raise an army of them and take over the world!
(No M. Bison jokes!)
However... that's not gonna happen. He's now under the free care and protection of innocent trainers... or, if you're like myself, well on its way to becoming an ass-kicking machine! What a great way to come full-circle!
As I said, Genesect being the first TRUE Bug-type legendary, it also has the highest base stat total of all Bugs, at an even 600. Also, despite being part Steel, this thing is pretty damn fast; having a Speed stat that can be as high as 326!
But the BEST part about Genesect? It's offensive stats. Both Genesect's Attack and Special Attack can reach a maximum of 372! Damn! If that's not messing with power I don't know what is! Team Plasma may be a bunch of buffoons spewing nothing but a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, but I'll be damned if they didn't just create a totally awesome machine that can wipe out through almost anything! Even fire! Yes, with the help of the Douse Drive, Genesect's signature attack, Techno Blast becomes a Water-type attack, meaning that not even fire can bring this beast to a halt!
Why fight about old vs. new, and not combine them into something wonderful? Genesect has the right idea!

However... that's not gonna happen.
