****NOTE! CHECK LATER POST!! BETTER SHOT!****
8.5" x 11.5" color pencil with a little bit of marker.
Shot with camera and a lot of contrast was lost along with a smig of color. Also a little out of focus. Gonna get a proper scan later this week.
To me, this is a speed paint. Done under a week...speed paint! XD
The iris's color base was Copic marker (lavender) as was the hair(yellow ochre). Some warm grays were used in shading but otherwise color pencil was used on everything.
Had fun with her and learned a lot. May open commission slots for busts like this later in the year.
This will be for sale in the Anthrocon art show.

****I am getting a proper scan of this tomorrow and am going to repost. Everything is just so %$#@ off it's ridiculus!****
Critique and suggestions always welcome.

it is of course, hard to say right now, but so far I can't see anything bad. I would maybe have given her a broader muzzle, but that's just me. :)
I like her soft looks, the fuzzy fur, the big green eyes, the flowers, the hair...
ah, wait. are there whiskers? I usually add them, even though they can destroy the looks... ^^

I totally agree, the muzzle could have been a little wider and slightly longer. I debated whether to go more realistic but stuck with how the sketch originally came out, a more cartoon look I suppose, which really isn't my style. If I had a do over, that is what I'd change.
Whiskers!! Biggest debate of all!! She really needs them but I am scared to death that I'd kill the whole thing. No fixative yet so I could still add them and I just got some acrylic ink yesterday that I got for that purpose and the obies. Whiskers could definitely improve it.
OK, you talked me into it. Whiskers! If I kill it, it's all your fault! ;)
I will post the revised and scanned piece tomorrow night.
Wish me luck.

it does have a hint of typical manga to it: childlike facial structures and large eyes. :) not a bad thing, really. ^^ she's still cute.
some black cats have white whiskers, and their faces look like cascades of white. :) it really obscures the face, so I usually don't add too many of them, just a few lines.
if you kill it, and it won't sell, I'll buy it. seriously!
good luck! =^_^=

Thank you! :D
I used Prismacolor pencils when I first started drawing 3 years ago but didn't like a few things about them. Then I tried Faber-Castell. Wow! All the difference in the world! So much smoother and blended better. Won't use anything else now. A little more expensive (just got art supplies yesterday and they cost $1.71 each) but soooo worth it!

I was stunned by this, the first I saw her. The detail, coloration, that aluring gaze she has. It so makes me wish such actually existed. I would love to run my fingers though her soft fur, feel her take me in her arms.
I was going to +fav it, but I will wait till I see the proper scan and post of that one before I do. This deserves only the finest.
And yes, I /have to/ have you do a bust picture of Kantuck. Your one of only four artists I believe could do it correctly. One down, three more to go :)

It's hard not to fantasize about such things while drawing these works but I try not to, it is a distraction. You put it so well in words though and the image hit me like a brick.
* Heavy sigh!*

[giggles] I am always glad to help out in anyway.
Still, I've shown this around, it just blows people's mind, and they're about to donate to my commission. I'm 99% done with the anikawi physical reference sheet and there is quite a few changes I've made to keep the realistic aspect of my framework. I had to also upend somethings I held in it for awhile. But counsel with others involved in it, has shown my errors.

Can't wait to see the completed ref sheet, I am very much looking forward to this project.
While you were making this last post, I was doing some touch up work on her, mostly on the facial markings and the eyes. I usually see things that bother me days after I "complete" a drawing and may pick at a piece for weeks if I let myself. Most wouldn't see the difference but I do. :)

I've been studying your ref sheet for about the last 40 minutes. I love it and I have questions. I pretty much knew the change you were hinting at, the original design was nice and rather unique and quite problematic when designing wardrobes and very much so when it comes to bust designs like this. ;)
I'll note you. on DA.

Thank you! I'm still working on some aspects. But I'm getting close to now finishing Balas, and Kantuck's history sheets. If you wish, you can also e-mail me at: kantuck1[at]gmail.com
I started studying and drawing the big cats in the '70s and noted the bengal tiger females sometimes have a a fairly sparse ruff. I have also seen photos and observed females in zoos with broad, magnificent ruffs. Siberians now, male and female, have poofy ruffs, summer and winter from what I have observed.
